A Sentence A Day – December 2018

Janet Camilleri · 08/01/2019 ·

As I write this, I am still officially on holidays – but having my own business means that it’s never a total break. However I’m enjoying the slower pace, I can tell you!

With the rest of the family now back at work I thought it was time for the first post here on the blog for 2019, with a look back on December 2018 in (supposedly!) a sentence a day.

1 December – Bought our first tray of mangoes for the season – nom nom nom!

2 December – It was a day of fixing things (not sure what, I didn’t write that down and I don’t remember!).

3 December – Did my monthly invoicing for my retainer clients, and squeezed in a trip to the library as I’d run out of books to read.

4 December – Indulged in a “revitaliser” special at a local salon – mini facial, back and foot massage – to reward myself for surviving the move!

5 December – Joined half a dozen other women at a local business network support group.

6 December – My first morning walk in nearly a month!

back on my walks

7 December – Put on my glad rags and caught up with some copywriting buddies for a Brisbane Copywriters Christmas dinner, at Corbett and Claude in the City (first time I’ve been in the city on a Friday night for eons – can somebody tell me, just WHEN did Elizabeth St become so packed with trendy eateries and the beautiful people?!)

TCCS Christmas shenanigans

8 December – Although I’d unpacked the kitchen stuff, decided the placement just wasn’t working for me so went through and re-arranged everything!

9 December – Bought some mats for the front and back doors at Bunnings, did a grocery shop, and then hubby and I settled into watch a movie on Netflix – it’s been months since we’ve had time to do that!

10 December – Dinner at our gorgeous girl’s place.

11 December – To celebrate 31 years since our first date, hubster and I went to the local Indian restaurant for dinner – this is a bit of a first for me, I’ve always been wary as I can’t stand anything spicy. Thankfully my chicken tikka marsala was very mild, and my Bear decided he loves mango lassi!

Indian for dinner

12 December – Saw my local podiatrist for some foot mobilisation therapy, to help me regain full movement and strength in my ankle after twisting it last month.

13 December – Lengthy Skype call to discuss a potential business partnership for the New Year – will I or won’t I?! Big decisions to be made!

14 December – Got some positive feedback from the real estate agent about the inspections held so far at our old home, alas no nibbles as yet.

15 December – Even though we are still “camping” in the new house, we are starting to socialise again and invite people over – this weekend, my sister (who lives 50km+ away) came to stay, which was lovely. She brought us a beautiful plant as a housewarming present.

housewarming gift

16 December – A rainy Sunday, I actually sat down and wrote a handful of (okay, three) Christmas cards and a letter to go with them!

17 December – A very proud day – Mr 24’s graduation from uni with a Bachelor of Commerce. We gave him a little graduation teddy and contributed towards a (very expensive!) watch that he wanted; after the ceremony we took all the kids out for sushi (his favourite food ever).

proud parents - Copy

18 December – Had a pre-start meeting with a couple of Council officers as we have gained approval to fill and level our new backyard … (here we go again LOL – remember our previous backyard saga?!).

19 December – I seem to be doing a lot of wedding work lately – today, for a Brisbane celebrant, and a leading Sydney wedding photographer!

20 December – For the first time, I really didn’t feel safe on my morning walk. An older fellow dressed in tradies’ gear seemed to be following me … ironically, the photo below was taken in a more sheltered walkway before I got nervous.

morning walk

21 December – Mowed both yards – the best part was cooling off afterwards under the hose!

22 December – Hubby and I headed out to the shops late in the afternoon (when it was a lot quieter) to do the last of our Christmas shopping. I managed to lose my carry bag, luckily it only had about $20 worth of chocolate gifts in it!

23 December – Wrapped up all the pressies.

24 December – Although our holidays officially started on the weekend, I found myself doing some work as my Bear was called into work also.

25 December – Christmas Day! The kidults arrived about 1pm for a late lunch of glazed ham, roast vegies and brown rice salad, and we then chillaxed on our lovely back deck where we enjoyed the sea breezes. There was also a fair bit of playing of pool (we have a pool table in the new house), Atari (one of my Christmas presents, I’m a Space Invaders junkie), colouring, and watching The Orville (new sci fi series a bit like Star Trek, one of the hubster’s pressies). Oh, and my favourite sandals broke 🙁 .

I got an Atarii 2

26 December –

27 December – Had to try out the new rashie I received for Christmas so we went for a swim at our local beach. This is the life!

28 December – Miss 22 and I indulged in some retail therapy with an outing to DFO. I came home with two pairs of sandals, some black shorts and a top from Rivers (and still had change from $80), a cute sundress from Cotton On, and bought up big in the Tarocash outlet for the boys – business shirts for Mr 24, and polo shirts for the hubster.

29 December – Hubster and I set out to see some local display homes but they were closed, so we went grocery shopping instead!

30 December – Early birthday treat (my birthday is in early January) – we went to Holey Moley indoor putt putt in the Valley with my parents and Miss 22 and her man, we shared a jug of Pimms and had a good laugh.

putt putt Ju and Callum

I bought the top and sandal from Rivers, wearing with my favourite Vivid pants (gifted).

31 December – We’re not really ones for ringing in the New Year, I think the boys played pool and I did some colouring. One thing we’ve noticed about the new house though, is that we have an excellent view of the local fireworks from the back!

And here we are in 2019! I saw a meme on Facebook that said “And just like that, 1999 is 20 years ago” … wow. Remember how worried we all were about Y2K?! Would our computers kick the bucket? Would planes drop out of the sky? Would our banking system collapse? Would it be the end of the world as we knew it?!

What did you get up to on New Year’s Eve? And should I continue with my Sentence a Day posts in 2019 or am I boring you to tears?!

    I Love mangoes!
    Sadly, my skin does not.
Are they worth a little rash around my mouth?
    Sometimes!
