I’m in trouble again with the kidults for taking too long with my “Sentence A Day” post for December … LOL.
But I was so inspired by my word for the year for 2021 that I wrote about that first, and this post just had to wait!
So what happened in December??! I’m so glad you asked!
1 December – I have SO MUCH work to get through before Christmas, especially seeing as I want to take 3 weeks’ off afterwards. A big day at my desk, and quite a few more to go before the break.
2 December – My PT has been encouraging me to give water walking a try to replace my morning walks during the hot weather, so today I put on my big girl pants swimmers and headed to the local pool. Following another huge day at our desks, the husbear and I ordered Uber Eats from our favourite Thai restaurant for dinner.
3 December – Fun times at the Bayside Women in Business Christmas function at the Waterloo Bay Hotel in Wynnum, and I even won a $50 voucher to Tide on the Jetty restaurant!
4 December – The husbear and I went for a morning walk; we might have stopped in at Zaraffa’s for a cold mocha fusion along the way …
5 December – Spent the day at Miss 24’s place, where together with her almost M-I-L, we decorated gingerbread houses and made and decorated sugar cookies for Christmas which was a lot of fun! Let’s just say mine were the messiest π .
6 December – Something I’ve noticed the last year or two is that I get a lot of chafing in the thigh and groin area in the hot and sticky weather. It’s one of the reasons I wear shorts more than dresses these days; but after a particularly uncomfortable week, I went shopping and bought a heap of boy leg undies to see if they help. (They do!)
7 December – Felt out of sorts in the morning after a bad dream, but a water walk helped clear my head. We had a series of storms come through across the afternoon and evening – it’s hard to stay at my desk, I just want to watch the lightning show!
8 December – Another big day of work; my email inbox is overflowing and my phone was going crazy. Seems I’m not the only one panicking about getting things sorted before Christmas!
9 December – A bit of self-care midst the madness – I went for a massage π .
10 December – Carved out some more ‘me’ time with a trip to the hairdresser for a trim and foils – I got a mixture of blonde and caramel, to help hide the regrowth from my darker colour and blend in the greys. Feel like a new woman!
11 December – Worked til late, but then that’s the price you pay when you book haircuts and massages for during working hours π .
12 December – A bit of Christmas shopping with the husbear in the morning, before he left for an overnight visit to his parents in Toowoomba. It was a windy night and even though it wasn’t too hot I ended up putting the air con on, because I was getting a bit creeped out by the noises!
13 December – Off to another Christmas celebration – a wine and cheese evening hosted by my lovely PT Sally.
14 December – Wow! We had some wild weather. After work the husbear and I went for a walk in the nearby nature reserve where we saw many branches down.
15 December – Meeting with a local marketing business to discuss ways that we could work together moving forward.
16 December – The husbear and I went for a walk after work to admire the Christmas lights in the neighbourhood.
17 December – The husbear and I went for a walk at lunch time … to pick up a pizza, LOL. In the evening we did a bit of Christmas shopping.
18 December – Another big day of work, didn’t finish til 9.30pm.
19 December – Not surprisingly I needed a Saturday sleep in after that marathon effort! Did the last of the Christmas shopping in the afternoon.
20 December – Went ten pin bowling with Mr 26 and his better half, and Miss 24 and her fiance, followed by a BBQ on our deck.
21 December – The husbear bent his middle finger back ten pin bowling and it’s quite swollen and sore. He’s not getting the sympathy from me he was expecting – this is something I’m only TOO familiar with! I couldn’t catch a softball or even a netball to save my life as a kid without doing this (and I’m not much better now, LOL).
22 December – Last PT session and business coaching session before Christmas.
23 December – Last day of work before Christmas, after a water walk.
24 December – Slept in, then did the mowing as well as some cooking to prepare for Christmas.
25 December – Christmas Day – which you can read all about here!
26 December – Cleaned out my side of the walk in wardrobe which was a bit of a disaster area.
27 December – Today I cleaned out all my desk drawers! In the evening we went to the boat club for a Christmas get-together with my side of the family.
28 December – Anybody would think our house is party central! We had some visitors and all the kids came over too, so we had a BBQ out on the deck.
29 December – All that partying takes it out of me π guess I’m an introvert at heart. A snoozy day, though I did start a puzzle I’d received for Christmas.
30 December – More puzzling! Plus, the husbear and I binge-watched the Netflix series, “The Queen’s Gambit”. Husbear liked it because it was about chess; I liked it for the “girl power” theme. I found the first episode a bit unsettling however, as it was set in an orphanage – reminders of my own time in Sandgate Children’s Home in 1978.
31 December – Had to do a bit of work which I hadn’t completed before Christmas (even though I’m meant to be on holidays for 3 weeks – such is the life of a business owner). I was quite sore in my shoulders from doing my puzzle. And I’m afraid we didn’t see the New Year in as we were too tired! I heard some fireworks right on midnight but was too comfortable to get up and watch them, while husbear didn’t hear a thing as he was already in the land of nod!
Needless to say, it was a big month! Definitely needed some time off …
If you could sum up YOUR December in just one phrase or sentence – what would it be?!

Two interesting (to me at least) observations: 1) It’s warm! I mean, I know it’s summer for you, it’s still just an eye opener. I remember as a kid having a book about Christmas in Australia and there was pictures of beach picnics and surfing. I live in San Diego, CA, so that’s a bit more typical for me, but it’s still a jolt (even though it’s typically nice here). 2) Lucky you got to have Christmas festivities and didn’t even need masks! That’s my hope for 2021. Happy New Year!

Hi Denise, I dream of one day experiencing the magic of a white Christmas … but it wouldn’t be with my family so just wouldn’t be the same! We were very fortunate in the lead up to Christmas, have been back in masks the past couple of weeks π

Enjoyed your sentence a day, as usual : )
My December was tiring, with moving and all. And my January is Hot! Still getting used to the heat out here! Thankful there’s been rain though, and things are pretty green.

I hate the heat!!!!!! A woman I used to work with has recently retired to Tasmania and I am envying her photos – it’s much cooler there!
