A Sentence A Day: July 2019

Janet Camilleri · 05/08/2019 ·

Welcome to the July 2019 edition of A Sentence A Day, a month in the life of a modern middle aged woman!

a sentence a day july 2019

The calendar might say it’s mid-winter but as you will see in the following photos, we’ve had plenty of bright sunny and warm days here in Bris-Vegas.

I also noticed that there are a lot of photos of food in this month’s post. I’m not sure what that says about me (or my waistline, LOL) …

1 July – That’s it, I am never leaving shoes out on the front porch again after I picked up a shoe this morning, and THIS fell out of it! (No idea what type of spider it is, just a scary looking one!)

2 July – Invoicing day.

3 July – Meeting with a client about an upcoming project; I will need to hire a graphic designer to help me with this one so have put some feelers out … these days I am finding it increasingly valuable to have good connections in related fields, like graphic and website design, social media, etc.

4 July – Meeting with my new tax agent – it’s official – I’m registered for GST.

5 July – Made shish kebabs for a relaxed Friday night BBQ on the deck.

6 July – Took Miss 22 to pick up her wedding dress; while on the other side of town, we visited my sister.

7 July – A quiet Sunday.

8 July – The husbear forgot to take his phone to work so I spent the day as his social secretary … drove me mad!

9 July – Coffee with the owner of a social media agency that I do a lot of work with. Well, technically it wasn’t coffee, it was a salted caramel hot chocolate – a meal in a mug! According to the menu … “Salted caramel white hot chocolate, caramel drip syrup, topped with whipped cream, popcorn, salt flakes, blondie brownie, hokey pokey ice cream and malt dusting”. Ten out of ten – would recommend!

10 July – Women’s Network Australia brunch, where Nicci from Bahari Bay Wellness introduced us to her new product, Crystal Smelling Salts. I was so impressed I bought a jar and was delighted to learn I was her first ever customer! I chose the “Rejuvenating” jar, a fresh citrus-y scent which is great for giving me a boost, and has the added bonus of deterring Miss Fleur when she insists on lolling on my keyboard and/or mouse and I’m trying to get work done!

See what I have to put up with?!

11 July – Another networking event, this time in the evening with the Five Foot Rope Business Connective – the topic was growing your business and reducing overwhelm by getting strategies and processes in place.

12 July – Those Friday feels …

13 July – The husbear and I were busy in the garden doing a lot of pruning and tidying up.

He’s so cute!

14 July – Started a jigsaw puzzle – it’s been months since my last one.

15 July – I had a specialist appointment late in the afternoon, it just happened to be near Miss 22’s place so I went there for dinner and enjoyed cuddles with my grandkitties.

cudding Annabelle 1

16 July – In touch with my inner domestic goddess today … I made silverside in the crockpot, and then chopped up some celery and gave Seth (Mr 25’s cat) the leaves to play in – he goes crazy over it, must be like catnip for him!

silverfish

17 July – Took the family out for dinner to celebrate the husbear’s upcoming birthday.

dinner at Redland Sporting Club 1

18 July – Finished my puzzle – go me!

19 July – We have recently found ourselves the owners of a motorhome (long story, didn’t know we wanted one – but now we are loving it!), so as the husbear had an RDO we went away for our first weekend trip, to explore the countryside in the Brisbane Valley.

at Ravensbourne

20 July – We were practically in the area, so we dropped in on the husbear’s parents and had a lovely visit.

21 July – Today we visited Wivenhoe Dam – would you believe I’d never been to the dam before, despite living in Brisbane all my life?!

22 July – The kids came over for dinner, we don’t tend to see them so much during the week now they live a bit further away (sad face).

23 July – Meeting with a local graphic designer to discuss an upcoming project. The cafe where we met is in the same building I worked in for nearly ten years (until my redundancy in 2012)!

library cafe 1

24 July – Met up with a friend for lunch down at Raby Bay Harbour.

25 July– Nicci from Bahari Bay Wellness is on Youtube, where she interviews female business owners – and today I was the guest! The video will be released in about a month, I’m sure I’ll let you know when it goes live!

26 July – A busy day at my desk.

27 July – Attended a workshop on setting up solid business foundations. It was a taster session for a program called “Free the Thinkers” and was enough to convince me that this is exactly what I’ve been looking for – last month I mentioned the “growing pains” I’ve been experienced in my business, and I feel certain that this will help me move past them. It’s a 12 week program mostly conducted online, and is part business coaching, part setting up the systems to drive the business.

28 July – More gardening, and I did a grocery shop.

29 July – The husbear’s phone went off at 4am, Miss 22 was in hospital with severe abdominal pains – suspected appendicitis. I spent the day by her hospital bed, however tests were inconclusive so they were reluctant to operate and she was sent home in the afternoon once her pain was under control. Miss 22 was extremely ticked off to have no diagnosis and is worried it will happen again …

30 July – Taking the day off yesterday meant lots of work to catch up on, in the evening the husbear and I veged in front of the TV and watched Yes Man, one of our fave movies.

31 July – Visited a property with a real estate agent and prepared the write up; was delighted to meet the two cute kitties of the house (here’s a pic of one of them).

And here we are in August again, which means it is now officially two years since I began recording just “A Sentence A Day”! (You can read my first ever post in the series, in “A Sentence A Day: The Experiment“.)

Sunny days, lots of meetings, great food, cute kitties, a weekend away … all in all July was a pretty good month (except for when our girl got sick).

Can you tell me three things about your July, in the comments below?!

Hi Liz, it was absolutely divine!!!! From a cafe at Daisy Hill called St Co Co. And happiest of birthdays to you, 40 is fab. And I love the sound of your “retreat” at home too, I think we could all use a bit of that from time to time – esp when there’s a cute pet involved 😉 .
