A Sentence A Day – September 2019

Janet Camilleri · 04/10/2019 · Leave a Comment

Yes, it’s a Sentence A Day time, and the big news in September is that we officially joined the ranks of the “Empty Nesters”.

Sentence A Day Sept 2019

Mr 25 has moved into his own digs, closer to his job in the city. Hard to believe that 26 years ago, almost to the day, we found out that we were expecting our first baby … and now that baby, and his little sister, have both grown up and are busy living their own lives, and it’s back to being just “me’n’him” again!

Here’s what else we’ve been up to over the past few weeks …

1 September – Visited my Dad and stepmum for morning tea – it was Father’s Day after all! In the evening, Miss 22 and her fiance came over for dinner and the kids gave the husbear his pressies.

Father's Day

2 September – Mr 25 had a look at a unit for rent on Saturday and lodged an application, and today it was approved – he’s moving out this coming weekend!

3 September – I held my first ever SEO workshop and it was an overwhelmingly positive experience, so much so, I am now planning another one in October and November!

4 September – That awkward moment when you turn up to a networking event, only to see yourself in the Powerpoint presentation at an event from earlier in the year wearing the exact same dress! LOL just kidding I didn’t really mind.

that embarrassing moment

5 September – My copywriting tasks today included writing a blog post about cockroaches (ugh), and what makes for a pleasant work environment. Certainly plenty of variety!

6 September – A thick blanket of fog over all of Brisbane this morning – this is what it looked like from our deck.

foggy morning

7 September – Today brought a dust storm – yuk, while the husbear helped our son move into his new unit.

8 September – My turn to help out with the move in my own special way – shopping of course! Mr 25 and I went to Ikea to get some bits and pieces for his new place. I managed to walk out having spent less than $30 – impressive!

9 September – Very sad to hear the news that Binna Burra (pic below) was pretty much wiped out by a bushfire over the weekend. We have fond memories after staying there last year – we walked all the way from O’Reilly’s to Binna Burra!

10 September – The husbear and I went out for Chinese for dinner, this could become a much more regular occurrence now we are empty-nesters!

11 September – Had a meeting at the Coffee Club.

12 September – Popped into the local IGA on my walk this morning to get some milk, and was amazed by these weird looking grapes. I’m sorry I didn’t buy some, when I posted the pic on Facebook, people told me that they taste amazing!

13 September – Kids over for dinner, Miss 22 and her man brought over a yummy pecan tart for dessert (see below).

14 September – The husbear was out most of the day, so I seized the opportunity to do some blogging for fun (not business!).

15 September – Household chores – grocery shopping, vacuuming and mopping – everything felt so dusty and dirty after the dust storm, dry weather and bushfires.

16 September – Just in case you thought we had the perfect marriage, the husbear and I had a bit of a blue 🙁 .

17 September – First storm of the season this evening. I was working at my computer and Fleur was lying on my desk when there was a massive clap of thunder, I swear we both jumped a foot!

18 September – We visited Mr 25 for dinner, it was good to see both him and Seth all settled into their bachelor pad.

19 September – And tonight we visited Miss 22 and her fiancé for dinner and cuddled those gorgeous grandkitties.

20 September – We got a knock on the door after dinner, the neighbour’s son’s young girlfriend had accidentally backed into one of our cars parked on the street. These things happen, but it’s just annoying how even though it’s not our fault, we still have to organize a heaps of quotes, book in repairs etc.

21 September – When the going gets tough, the tough get going! We went away in the motorhome and found a couple of great free camping spots just west of Brisbane.

22 September – I made friends with a horse and a cute dog on our motorhome adventures.

23 September – Found out today that my sister has joined the “adopt don’t shop” club – this is Willow – doesn’t she look happy in her new home?

Willow

24 September – Have been having problems with my emails and other issues so had an IT guy come to sort things out. When he left, Miss Fleur must have snuck out and went for a little adventure past our back fence … naughty Fleur-Bee! It took ages to coax her back inside.

Fleur is naughty

25 September – I don’t always have to go out for meetings – today I had a Zoom (online) meeting.

26 September – It’s very dry here, so I was pleased to see some ominous looking clouds on my morning walk. Unfortunately they didn’t bring any rain.

promising clouds

27 September – The husbear had an RDO, he’s had to work the last couple so it was nice to have him around even though I was working at my desk.

28 September – You can tell the cupboards are getting pretty bare, I did some baking! Coconut and fudge squares, nom nom nom.

29 September – All the kids were here for Sunday dinner. I also noticed something weird going on with one of my eyes – stars and floaters in the periphery of my vision.

30 September – I saw my local optometrist who agreed something is definitely going on. I have very poor vision in that eye anyway due to a lazy right eye, I’m quite relieved it’s not in my good eye! Tomorrow I am seeing an ophthalmologist for further investigations. What is it about being 50+, there always seems to be “something” going on health-wise …

I wonder what adventures October holds in store? I’m hoping there will be some good rain both here in Brisbane and further west, and that there is nothing serious going on with my eye …

Your turn now – what was the biggest event/change in your life in September 2019?

I live in Brisbane, Australia, and I'm learning how to fashion a new life now that we have an empty nest - did somebody say "travel"?!
