Bloggers United Brisbane Event

Janet Camilleri · 07/06/2016 ·

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you probably noticed that I spammed you with a heap of pics from the Bloggers United Brisbane Event a couple of weeks back.

BOE range from Big W

I’d followed from afar when the Bloggers United events were held in Adelaide, Sydney and other capital cities and wished we could have them here … sometimes wishes do come true!

So when crazy cat lady blogger Sammy from Bargain Baglady, mentioned the Bloggers United Brisbane event was only 9 days away, I was like, “WHAT! HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS!”

Off went my email enquiry and the blogging gods were with me, because I. SCORED. THE. LAST. TICKET! I was going to hang out with a heap of other Brisbane bloggers!

Bargain Baglady and Middle Aged MamaSo good to meet Sammy on the day!

As I walked into the foyer of the Fox Hotel, I was immediately struck by all the very beautiful, very YOUNG ladies … but fortunately there were a few other (ahem!) mature bloggers for me to “hang” with. (That’s not to say I didn’t hang with the young ones too … one of the first gals I met was the charming Olivia from Olivia’s Beauty Blog, who told me she was 18 – turns out we both live in the same suburb!).

bloggers Candy Fairy and Jenny

My experience of “life on the older side” continued when I approached one of the market tables, to have the sweet young thing exclaim, “I know you! I went to school with your daughter – and she shares lots of your posts!”

feeling oldBoth of these young ladies knew Miss 19 from school!
Luckily they didn’t hold it against me 😉

FAQ About the Bloggers United Brisbane Event

I’ve had quite a few of you ask me about it, so I thought I’d answer your most frequently asked questions.

How did you score all those amazing goody bags?!

Yes, goody bags, PLURAL. I think I ended up with five to take home!

Kelsey SarahWe were all laden with goody bags, just like Kelsey Sarah!

The event wasn’t free – tickets were $50 – but well worth it. Bloggers United is all about bringing bloggers and brands together; many of the brands are smaller ones with little to no marketing budget, so they are keen to work with bloggers in the hope that we will fall in love with their products and shout their praises across social media 🙂 .

What are your favourite products so far?

There were so many great products, it will take me months to trial them all – Miss 19 promptly claimed half I divvied up my loot with Miss 19 and she will help me trial and review them (if she knows what’s good for her 😉 ). However there are two I am loving already: the Skin Therapy Bee Venom moisturiser, and the Maybelline Colour Sensational matte lipstick in “Touch of Spice” (available at Priceline).

Skin Therapy Bee VenomFunny name – great product!

Did you know anybody at the event?

No! Sammy from Bargain Baglady and I had connected online over our shared love of op shopping and cats, but this was our first meeting in real life. I also suspected I would see some familiar faces, after all, I’ve been to my fair share of bloggy events … but nada. It was a totally different (younger!) group to what I have normally encountered.

I also enjoyed spending time with Kellie from Red Delicious, Katrina from Sista with Style, Jenni from This Glamourous Mess, and Candice from Candy Fairy.

What did you do there?

We had a number of guest speakers from different brands, doing demonstrations and teaching us about makeup, health and beauty. During the break for nibbles, we had the opportunity to check out the various displays and chat to brand reps.

What brands are you keen to collaborate with in the future?

Ah now … that would be telling! You’ll just have to wait and see for yourself. I have some ideas that I’d really like to pitch to a couple of the brands, that work with more mature markets. Now to get off my butt and contact them!

Thank you so much for letting me know about it – not to mention the fact that I felt so much better about going, knowing there was ONE person I knew (sort of)!!!

Great idea for smaller brands to be able to connect. Am choking about all the 18 year olds. It is like when hubby has a new employee at his office and I choke when I find out what year they were born in. Enjoy trying out all your goodies.

LOL I know right! How can somebody at work have been born in the 2000’s?!!

Looks amazing. I’ve always wondered if Bee venom was worth its weight – very pricey stuff #teamIBOT

I looked up the price and this one is quite reasonable compared to a lot of brands 🙂

I love Bargain Baglady too, being the enthusiastic op shopper myself! There are so many good ones around her way too. I have op shop envy.

I saw this and thought it would just be very young beauty bloggers but now I’m sort of kicking myself. Looks fabulous — really hope that you get to work with some of the brands that are a good fit.

I totally forgot to buy a ticket. I wanted to go because there are so few blogging events these days …but it slipped my mind. Was it all makeup based though? I want to go to blogging events but Bloggers United always looked far too girly for me 🙂

      08/06/2016 at 12:24 pm

It was very heavily beauty-based Vanessa so might not have been your cup of tea though it would have been wayyyyy cool to have met you IRL!

Glad to hear the Brisbane event was also awesome! I can’t wait for next year’s. The girl I sat with for most of the Adelaide event ended up living super close to me too! That’s Adelaide for you though.

Looks like you had a great time at an equally great event. The goodie bags looked amazing too 🙂 I know what you mean about being a little on the ahem, mature side at these events. Still it keeps us young, hey?

It sure does Jo! Plus we show these young whipper snappers that getting older is nothing to be afraid of!

Funny how these events highlight that there are so many bloggers out there and we really have no idea about half of them! It’s a huge community.
