Blogging Clarity Challenge 1: Interests

Janet Camilleri · 13/06/2014 ·

My Blogging Clarity Challenge: this is my lifeLike most good ideas, I didn’t think of this Blogging Clarity Challenge idea myself – I pinched it!

My bloggy mate B over at B Being Cool has been leading the way, as she re-discovers her blogging mojo. She felt her blog had lost its focus, and was inspired by a post by Darren Rowse (THE ProBlogger) called “7 Questions to Ask Yourself To Bring Clarity To Your Blogging“.

I’ve only just finished my Faces of Depression series, and enjoyed that so much I decided to think about another series … and here we are 🙂 .

I’m planning to tackle one question each Friday for the next few weeks to give me time to really ponder and chew on each topic – and although I don’t really feel in need of boosting my blogging mojo (love, love, LOVE blogging!) – I thought it would be a fun adventure and if it gives me guidance for my blog at the same time, so be it.

Here are the 7 questions:

  1. What interests do I have?
  2. What experiences (good or bad) have I had?
  3. What expertise and skills do I have?
  4. What are my passions?
  5. What gives me energy?
  6. What do I talk about with my friends?
  7. If I could write about anything, what would I write?

So without further ado …

My Blogging Clarity Challenge 1: What Interests Do I Have?

There are so many things that interest me – where do I start!

I love writing and blogging (obviously) – and I’m a huge reader, mostly of chic lit, historical novels, magazines, and some non-fiction. I don’t mind a bit of sci-fi at times, especially if it’s a book by Anne McCaffery (her Dragon series in particular).

Hubster and I are big fans of “Star Trek: the Next Generation” – in fact, I gave him the entire series on DVD for his birthday last year!

In my spare time I like to potter in my garden, especially the vegie patch. I love doing 1000 piece jigsaws and crocheting (although I was only a beginner), but bursitis in my shoulder has curtailed that for the moment 🙁 .

I love cute stuff
A rare photo with Mr 20, and Sophie the snuggly puppy!

I’m interested in history, fashion, home decor, animals and anything with that cute factor – kitties, teddies, puppies, babies – well you get the idea.

I don’t mind a bit of retail therapy, and enjoy hunting for bargains – not surprisingly I also love op shopping.

I’ve never been one for sports and fitness, but we recently bought a treadmill off Gumtree for $50 and I am surprised at how much I am enjoying getting a bit more active and walking every day (again, jogging seems to aggravate the bursitis). Then there’s the fact that I’ve lost a couple of kilos along the way, which doesn’t hurt either 😉 .

I think my interests are pretty common amongst Middle Aged Mamas, come to think of it!

So now it’s your turn – what interests do we share?

OMG I can’t believe how similar we really are. You could be my long lost twin. If I actually had one. 🙂

I’m sitting here trying to decide if I finish my 1000 piece jigsaw or the crochet blanket I’m working on in my lunch break today as I work from home.

Just wanted to add. I did this challenge too but mainly offline and as a life detox. It’s been rather interesting and something I’m still working through.

I’m sure we must be related … that was almost like reading a list of my own interests … although I don’t crochet. I would love to learn but just can’t find the time at the moment!

Thanks Janet, I have also just had a look at Being Cools site, gives me another to follow. I don’t know that I have clarity on my blog either, really it’s just for me and mine. So forward on I go about anything and everything xx

Yes I agree we do need to write about what we are passionate about in our lives, whether that be knitting, reading or cooking. For me at present it is travel and although it has cut my readership by about a third I don’t mind. At the end of the day I am writing this blog for me and it is not about getting a huge readership (but it would be nice!)

I loved reading Belinda’s replies to these questions, and you have lived up to her standards! It’s so interesting reading about people I think! I’m afraid jigsaws hold no fascination to me. Although I love seeing my kids do them! (Probably because they are simple enough that I can do it with them!) You can actually see their brains working while they do it, and that always makes this Mummy happy!
