Confessions of a Cradle-Snatcher

Janet Camilleri · 28/04/2014 ·

Me and my Toy Boy after we got engaged
How similar are our poses in these photos?! That was then …

I Must Confess: I’m a cradle-snatcher!

My hubster is in fact younger than I am – he is my very own “toy boy”.

They say that there are advantages to the “older woman/younger man” scenario:

  • Women don’t reach their sexual peak until later in life, so it takes a younger man to keep ’em happy.
  • Statistically men die younger than women, so having a younger husband means that you are less likely to be left a widow.

However I wasn’t thinking of any of these things when I first discovered that I was cradle-snatching and dating a (shock horror!) younger man!

Confessions of a Cradle-Snatcher …

I’ve shared our love story before – I initially thought my hubster was about 22 (I was 20). When I realised he was in fact eighteen months younger than me – and had been two whole years behind me in high school – it did put me off a little. The age gap seemed almost insurmountable back then!

I highly recommend being a cradle-snatcher!
… this is now – over 25 years later!

Nowadays, we don’t even think about; and if we don’t mention it, nobody else thinks about it either.

And next week, we will celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary :-).

What is the age gap between you and your partner – are you a cradle-snatcher and proud of it?!

Linking up with My Home Truths for another Monday confession.

There is 28 years between Paul and I. There are times when the age gap is glaringly obvious (apart from looks obviously) like when we talk about school but most of the time it doesn’t worry us. We’ve been together 6 years so we must be doing something right ๐Ÿ™‚

My Dad used to think I was weird for having a crush on Sean Connery, who is even older than he is. But it just goes to show that age is no barrier to attraction. It might make things a little bit more challenging in a relationship, but heck, all relationships come with their own unique challenges! As you say, you must be doing something right!

Like Tegan, hubby is the cradle snatcher here too – 22 years older than I am which was quite the scandal when I was 19 and he was 40! It’s funny how the accepted ‘norm’ seems to be for the man to be older in a relationship. When my nana died she’d left specific instructions that she didn’t want her age published in her obituary as she didn’t want people knowing she was 2 years older than my grandfather. And that was in the mid 1990s!

Wow, imagine your nana not wanting people to know even after all those years of marriage. I’m glad things have changed ๐Ÿ™‚

Truth be told after all those years of marriage I think she didn’t want to know my grandfather full stop, but that’s a whole ‘nother story ๐Ÿ˜‰

So my hubby is 6 years old than me, so he’s the cradle snatcher! We’ve been together 10 years but today celebrate 7 years of marriage! Love you’re a mini-cougar!

Happy anniversary to you Em! And maybe that’s why I love animal print in clothing so much – I’m a mini-cougar – LOL!

I am the cradle snatcher, Mark is four years younger than me, we have known each other most of our lives and been married for 21 years this year. He’s 45 and I am 49 and we couldn’t be happier with two healthy sons.

Age is really just a number isn’t it?! And very nice sons you have too Sheri! ๐Ÿ˜‰

My husband used to be called a pedophile by his mates, as I am fourteen years younger. It was a huge shock to both of us when we worked it out. I thought him younger, and he thought me older. Both our families were a bit alarmed too, as he is closer to my parents age and he is the same age as one of my aunts. But, now, some many years on, it is irrelevant. No one notices. Still, we both get a surprise when we do the maths, and the question is asked how old were you then?

      28/04/2014 at 11:28 pm

Yes, I can understand your parents’ concern but I’m glad you’re proving them all wrong!

You two look so beautiful together! My hubby is eight years older than me! I always had a thing for older men!

Have to confess that most female members of my family are cougars too. I’m the odd one out, my man is 5 yrs older than me. I can see the attraction of a younger man but I just have always been drawn to older men. You look a lovely couple by the way!

I have a toy boy too – I’m about 18 months older than Nathan. We often joke that I’m his sugar mama! While it bothered me a little in the beginning, there’s no issue now. Age is just a number after all. Love your photos – happy 24th wedding anniversary for next week!

Congrats on 24 years of marriage. Hubby is only a few months older than me, although I swear sometimes he is ten years younger.

My hubby is 18 months older than me, but I believe that age is just a number and the term ‘cradle snatcher’ is outdated. I know many women that have married younger men and it is perfectly acceptable in today’s world, plus as you say there are some good reasons for having a toy boy!
