Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to rock a pair of white knee high boots.
Worn by only the funky and hip in the late 60’s and possibly early 70’s (I sure don’t remember my mum wearing them LOL!), I must have been still in nappies when these appeared on my fashion radar. From my earliest days, I longed for a pair of white gogo boots of my own!
However fashions change, and although many styles have gone out – and then come back in again – during my lifetime, alas, white gogo boots remain one of those daggy fashion trends that have yet to have a resurgence (except maybe for Heather Graham’s character in one of the Austen Powers’ movies).
I was excited to see these boots in our local antique store a while ago. Until I realised that the fact that I remembered when they were a thing, meant that I also am quite possibly, an “antique”. Or “vintage”. And not in a good way!
Looking back on it, there are a couple of other daggy fashion trends that I wish would come back in.
Banana Clips
Does anybody else remember that 80’s favourite, the banana clip?
When you pulled your hair back into a ponytail with one of these little babies, you didn’t lose any length so your hair still looked quite long. They went really well with that other daggy fashion trend, permed hair (which could be coming back into style … as I forecast on this blog a while ago!).
Mind you, I don’t know how appropriate they are for me now I’m a 50 year old woman, with a bit of a bob thing happening, but whatevs …
Twinsets
Although a variation of twinsets came back in around the time of the new milennium – only this time in soft, t-shirt type fabrics, much more suitable for a modern lifestyle than the cashmere and pearls of years gone by – I’d love to see them come back in again.
It’s partly laziness on my part – being able to layer without having to think about it.
But I think the main reason is because now I’m a middle aged woman, it would make dressing to suit my wonky thermostat (thanks a lot menopause) a heck of a lot easier 😉 !
Which daggy fashion trends do you most wish would come back into style?!
