Desperately Seeking a New Lipstick

Janet Camilleri · 22/11/2013 ·

seeking a new lipstick
I’d like a moment’s silence, please, as we mourn the passing of my favourite lipstick, Lip Glow No 5 by Natio.

I’m the first to admit: I’m a creature of habit.

For the past few years, my lipstick of choice has been Natio Lip Glow Number 5 … but you guessed it, they no longer make it. Quelle horreur!

And so the search is on – I’m desperately seeking a new lipstick.

Out with the Old …

It’s not the first time this has happened to me. I was perfectly happy with the Colours of Australis matte lipstick in Crushed Velvet – until that too was discontinued :-(.

So once again, I am searching for my ideal pout partner.

Mind you when I saw pics of me wearing my “old faithful” at my recent high school reunion I probably would have decided it was time for a change anyway. Looking at it now, it has too much of an orange cast. See for yourself, that’s it in the photo on the left below. On the right, I’ve done a bit of photo-shopping and altered it to a pinker, brighter shade, which I think suits me better. I promise the lipstick is all I changed, yet it makes my whole face look brighter!

Desperately Seeking a New Lipstick

So I’ve come up with a wanted ad to help me in my search.

WANTED: desperately seeking a new lipstick for long term relationship. Must be a matte or cream, not a frost (as this is ageing on my forty-something lips). A cool pinky red preferred; not too dark but not too light. Must be up for lots of eating, kissing and drinking numerous cups of tea each day. Ideal candidate will have staying power, provide excellent value for money (ie under $20), and leave my lips feeling soft and smart, but not greasy or dry. Very interested in meeting lipsticks not tested on animals. Oranges, browns and purples need not apply.

So if you know of any lipsticks that fill the bill – do let me know won’t you?

I agree that the pink shades suits you better. I can’t help you with brands though – I’ve been using the Makeup Store lippies for a while, and they are lovely but not cheap.

I remember when my mum’s favourite Revlon shade was discontinued in the 80s. It was obviously a big deal for it to still be in my memory!

I vote for a pinker shade too. I’m not much help with lippy suggestions (I do have a few gathering dust in a bag under the bathroom sink though), but I did buy some lip balm from Jurlique the other day and it’s great!

Let us know what lippy you end up with. 🙂

    Cheers,
    Lynda.

My fave was discontinued a while ago…and once I got over the horror, I moved on! Now, I refuse to have favourites. I try all sorts, ones on special, new products (but its a bit hit ‘n’ miss technique let me tell you!!). But favourites? They are now a thing of the past!

I’m having so much fun trialling different lippies I might be joining you!

I am more of a lip gloss girl. I use Revlon usually but I suit the brown and pink shades rather than the red and orange shades.

You’re the 3rd person to recommend Revlon so I must check them out!

I use Revlon Colourstay. I put it on in the morning and it’s still on at the end of the day! I could seen you in a red tone Janet:)

I’ve had a couple of people recommend Revlon so I will definitely have to try it.

Definitely go for a more pink number – the photoshopped lip looks great! I rarely wear lipstick these days, but I know the plummy browns definitely suit me best. One hint of pink and I’m a ruddy rugby player (in drag, presumably). x

Oh, I SO know how you feel!!! I have experienced the old “discontinued” story many times and it’s heartbreaking. I was in a flat spin trying to find a replacement for my fave. Now, as for your search, I highly recommend the Revlons, they aren’t too dry. Rimmel have some goodies, too. In my opinion, bright is best these days. Good luck with the search! xx

I’ve bought a Rimmel, haven’t tried Revlon yet so thanks for the tip!

Good luck on your quest. Sorry I can’t offer any suggestions as I don’t wear lipstick. You are right though the pink suits you. I hope you share some more of this on the blog, just in case I ever need to go find a lippy as well

I’m afraid I don’t know the names of any specific lipsticks, but I definitely agree that the pinker one really makes a differences. It’s amazing how the colour of lipstick can make such a difference to a person’s whole look.

It’s been fun trialling different lippies, and Miss 17 is ecstatic because she gets all the duds!

I love a bright lippy, and I think you look better in one too. I change mine all the time, and I’m currently loving one called Chasing Chili, made by MUD. I bought it at the chemist for $5, so if I get sick of it soon it won’t matter! It’s a nice quality for the price, creamy with good staying power, and not frosty, which I hate.
    xx
