I’ve been joining up regularly with Styling You’s “Everyday Style” challenge for two years now, and it really has helped me feel better about myself.
Working from home, it’s often tempting to take the easy option, and not really bother with my appearance. Joining in with #everydaystyle has really motivated me to make an effort, even if it IS only myself and the kitty that see it! Just because I’m at home, doesn’t mean I can’t love the clothes I’m wearing and feel good about how I look!
But what about our every night style?!
I was guilty for a long, long time – of not really bothering with my every night style. I mean, it’s not like anybody saw me wearing my nightie, except for my kids, and the hubster … it’s not like he counts or anything π .
But then I realised: we spend at least a third of our lives in our night wear. Many change into it as soon as they get home from work; others don’t get a chance to change out of their nightwear til close to lunch time (especially if they have small children!); while some just can’t be bothered at all on weekends or days off (isn’t that right, Miss 19 …)!
So just like our everyday style, we may as well wear something that is not only comfortable (for sleeping), but makes us feel great about ourselves at the same time.
Sharing My Every Night Style
My every night style of choice is a simple satin chemise nightie – all year round. I used to be a cold little frog that had to wear flannel PJ’s, bedsocks, and multiple layers in winter, but since my hysterectomy my thermostat has changed and even on the coldest nights, although I might go to bed in PJs I have to ditch them after an hour or so because I overheat.
I love my satin nighties! They are so silky and soft, and I feel pretty in them. I don’t need to wear a bra, yet still look reasonably decent.
Your every night style might be completely different – there is a great range of mix and match tops and bottoms available (personally I find it hard enough to work out that sort of stuff in the day time, let alone at night!).
Or, you might prefer baby doll PJ’s, t-shirt nighties, satin lounging pyjamas, a glamourous long negligee, a sweatshirt and trackie dacks, or even sleeping in the raw (not such a good idea with grown children in the house) …
Just remember to make it something you love. Throw out your ratty nightwear, or your hubby’s old t-shirts – you deserve better than that! Why not make it your New Year’s Resolution?!
What does your current every night style look like?! And would you be game enough to share your #everynightstyle on Instagram or Facebook?!

I have 3 pairs of pants and tees pjs that I wear at night. After they start to go daggy I buy new ones. I had a big cull of my summer sleepwear and deforest need to add some nighties to my night time attire.
Bec @ The Plumbette says
Haha deforest meant de-cluttered!! π

Miss 19 has an ah-mazing collection of pants/shorts and tees/singlet tops … I think her mother is addicted to buying whatever cute ones she sees … π
Lydia C. Lee says
Whoot whoooo.
Lydia C. Lee says
That’s said with a smile- everything I’m typing looks bitchy this morning?? Not meant that way….
Janet Camilleri says
I would never think of anything you said as bitchy, Lydia! π
Janet Camilleri says
Naww shanks honey x
Lyndall @SeizeTheDayProject says
Woohoo Janet – looking rather sexy in your pretty night attire! I must say, I don’t have anything sexy or satin at the moment – mostly comfy cotton from Tar-jay. Occasionally I splash out and buy some nice new PJs from Sussan too! π x
Janet Camilleri says
My nightie and robe set both came from Target last Summer π
Jules @ toddlersplusteens says
Wolf whistle ! Looking great in that night style . I usually wear pj pants and tanktops to bed . I am always conscious of the possibility of having a middle of the night rush to hospital with sick kids . X
Janet Camilleri says
I know what you mean – I don’t know how any parent can go commando. What if there’s a fire in the middle of the night?!!!!
Denyse Whelan says
Good for you Janet, that’s a great achievement linking with Nikki’s site. I admire your decision to show everyone how cool and well-dressed you can be. Kudos! Denyse
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Denyse – I must confess I don’t join every day – some days my style is not worth sharing π . Or I figure it’s something I’ve worn/photographed 7000 times before …
Vanessa says
I am so a husband’s tshirts to bed. If anything at all. It is QLD summer after all.
Janet Camilleri says
I should have added a disclaimer, please don’t share your #everynightstyle if you go commando LOL …
Natalie @ Our Parallel Connection says
Oh you’re funny. I couldn’t show you my every night style cause often it is nothing. lol
Janet Camilleri says
Yes, prob best not to share on social media then!
Zita says
I am a total day when it comes to my every night style.. Pair of boxer shorts and a polo shirt are my current pj’s of choice! Lol…
Janet Camilleri says
Sounds comfy! And who says boxers and polos can’t be cute?!
Raych aka Mystery Case says
Love your style and your new looking blog. I had plans to return to blogging today but life threw more than a few lemons our way and I’ve given myself even more time off. Hopefully back on track for Worth Casing Wednesday.
Janet Camilleri says
I hope so Raych – I’m planning to link up!
Toni @ Finding Myself Young says
I’m guilty of wearing the rattiest old pjs. I will wear them until they get holes and start falling apart. I did however splurge on a Peter Alexander satin nightie when I was pregnant {because I deserved it and needed to feel nice}, unfortunately it got so stretched out of shape I can’t really wear it any more. It probably is time I threw out all my old pjs and bought something nicer.
Janet Camilleri says
There are so many great ones now, and you don’t have to pay a fortune. Miss 19 and I are always picking up night wear in Kmart or Big W for well under $20 … addiction? Who us?! π
Anne@GritandGiggles says
Mine is a pair of floral pj shorts and a tshirt, not very inspiring.
Janet Camilleri says
It sounds comfy though and I’m a big fan of florals!
Kirsty @ My Home Truths says
I’m a shirt and shorts sort of girl when it comes to nightwear – I love being comfy at night. I’ve tried the nightie/chemise road but I just don’t feel comfortable in it. It’s funny how we all have different preferences when it comes to bedtime attire!
Janet Camilleri says
I can’t stand anything restrictive on my tummy at night, unless it’s really loose – hence my choice of nighties!
Michelle says
Lovely nightwear! I wouldn’t be brave enough to post pics of myself in my pj’s as they’re quite daggy, lol!
Janet Camilleri says
I’m a bit worried that weird men will get their jollies over my pics, fingers crossed they don’t find them!
Ness says
Looking good there, Janet! I may have to invest in something like this. I’m feeling a bit blah after breast cancer and having weird hair and menopause and all that. Might give me a lift. Or I might hate it and go back to my nanna nighties LOL!
Janet Camilleri says
It’s worth a try and they don’t cost the earth. My lovely Miss 19 bought me this set for Christmas a year or two ago. At least they never have to worry what to give me for a present!!!
