Why I’m So HOT Right Now!

Janet Camilleri · 14/04/2015 ·

I’ve made an amazing scientific discovery, about why I’m so HOT right now.

why I'm so HOT right now
Careful – touch the pic and it just might sizzle!

(And no, this has nothing to do with the fact that some random dude at the shops tried to hit on me recently).

Ever since I had a hysterectomy nearly 3 years ago, I no longer feel the cold. In fact, I feel HOT.

And before you start spouting off about hot flushes, and throwing the “M” word at me (menopause) – I kept my ovaries so technically, I still have a monthly cycle (just without the messy bits!).

Throughout our marriage, it has ALWAYS been the hubster who has wanted the fan or air conditioner ON, and the blanket or quilt OFF. I used to joke that if the hubster wore a jumper in Winter, then you KNEW it was cold!

I on the other hand was such a cold little frog, I’d wear as many clothes as an Arctic explorer simply to go to bed (must have been such a thrill for the hubster … šŸ˜‰ ). Singlet, skivvy, jammies, socks, beanie, scarf, doona, electric blanket/hot water bottle … and still I shivered.

Ever since my op however, we’ve experienced a complete role reversal.

Now it’s me wanting the air conditioning on, and kicking the covers off. I wear a chemise nightie for about 11 months of the year – just can’t stand anything else, as I know I’ll overheat. In fact I was asked to review some winter sleepwear recently and had to turn it down, as I just don’t DO winter sleepwear anymore!

I look at some of the fashion bloggers who have been sharing pics of themselves wearing jeans / long sleeves / scarves / boots / jumpers / jackets (or all of them at once) since February- and just shake my head in disbelief.Ā  There is no way I could even contemplate wearing any of that for long enough to take a photo, let alone all day!

And so, with all this anecdotal evidence at hand, I’ve come to the realisation: I swear our thermostat must be in our uterus.

Now mine is gone, my body temperature has all gone haywire, which is why I’m so hot right now!

Are you one hot mama, or a cold little frog like I used to be? Do you have any further evidence for my theory?!

My body temperature hasn’t been the same since my hysterectomy, which was 10 years ago. Lately though my hands and feet can’t seem to warm up at all. They are like icicles, while the rest of me is hot to the touch. Makes no sense and for an interesting night under the covers.

I still have all my bits and am the “other” side of 45 yet I’m still yet to experience those hot flushes that so many women my age are talking about! I can’t stand being hot so I’m not looking forward to it. I’m the cold frog in my house. I hug the heater and love blankets. My hands and feet are pretty much always cold. I think I take after my mother!

Oh gosh – I can so relate! My thermostat is on permanent HIGH. I am always HOT. I am hoping that Tasmania will be cold enough that I get a break from feeling hot?

And I am looking forward to our Europe trip – even though it’s coming into their Summer – I’m pretty sure it will be colder than here!

I still have all my parts and for mostly I am still the first to feel the cold. But as I get older I’m also feeling the heat faster and turning the air con on sooner than I used too.

Maybe it is just getting older. I’m sure we lived through some dreadfully hot summers as kids and nobody had air conditioning back then!

I had the big H 6 years ago, keeping my ovaries as well, but nothing has changed. I am warm in summer and feel the cold in winter. No signs of the big M either, touch wood (grabs for the dining room table) šŸ™‚

My mum, not that your her age but she’s had a H is always roasting – true story. We’re all freezing and she’s half naked – xx

Hmmm further evidence for my theory …

I don’t seem to feel hot or cold significantly. If it’s extreme in either, I notice it, and dress appropriately, and I don’t like a lot of clothes (which I think is just a by product of growing in Darwin), but weather just doesn’t faze me. I’m not as cold as people around me seem to be, nor ever as warm. I think my body just adjusts really easily. It’s weird and cool.

      15/04/2015 at 9:35 am

I’m kinda surprised you don’t feel the cold Jess, after living in Darwin up until recently!

It didn’t bother me at all. I coped better than a lot of the locals. I’m odd.

Hunny, it’s got nothing to do with your op, it’s your awesome making you all hot!

Since my tubal ligation (10 years ago) I get feral hot flushes, always at the most inconvenient of times. In summer I have trouble lowering my body temp, and in winter I have trouble being warm enough!

The female body is a weird thing *nods*

Ha! Now it makes sense when you asked me if I was hot wearing my cape the other week. I get hot often too but I think it could just be my body getting over being pregnant. I have the air con on for most of summer and it sits at 22 degrees. It may cost more on the electricity bill (well for us not so with solar panels, just means we don’t get much credit) but I prefer to be cool. I can’t stand being hot.

      15/04/2015 at 9:36 am

Me too, nothing worse than feeling hot and sticky.

I still feel the cold, so it doesn’t really help your theory!

      15/04/2015 at 9:36 am

Maybe it’s just a symptom of getting old …

Oh Janet, I love, love, love me some air conditioning. I really prefer to live in cool climates as I’ve always felt the heat. Bring on winter!

I know! I am so looking forward to our Europe trip, because although it will be coming up to their Summer, pretty sure it will be cooler than here!

You’re one hot mama alright, Janet šŸ˜‰ I feel the heat too. I like to have the air con on and the blankies kicked off. (I only sleep in my underdacks on those really humid nights) The bikini should definitely come out on the cruise.

      15/04/2015 at 9:38 am

I would love to sleep like that too on hot nights but I don’t think Mr 20 would cope … what if there was a fire?!

You must be right, when have you ever met a couple where the man feels the cold and the woman doesn’t. The only time in my life I haven’t felt the cold was when I was pregnant but you can’t keep having babies just to save on electricity bills – can you?

    • Janet Camilleri says

      15/04/2015 at 9:38 am

LOL I think the electricity bills would probably work out cheaper in the long run?!

I’m pretty sure my internal thermostat is busted! I am hot hot hot…all the time! The Brisbane humidity just kills me. I threaten a move to Tasmania all the time.

I have always felt the cold and always rug up. I have noticed a bit of a difference lately that my body temperature seems to slightly warmer.. Ahhh the joys of womanhood and getting older.

I’m a little bit of both, depends what state I’m in! I have found that since having the girls I do run hotter, and it was quite nice to be pregnant over winter and not feel the chill half as much as I used to. The older I get the more I love winter and loath summer!
