Fashionomics Report: February

Janet Camilleri · 01/03/2016 ·

Welcome to my second Fashionomics Report, where I bravely share my monthly spending on clothes!

(You can catch the January Fashionomics Report here.)

Fashionomics Report: February

Traditionally, I feel a bit blah about my wardrobe options in February. This extends to my shopping habits, as the stores are already full of winter pieces, long before I want to even think about it. I thought my spending would be pretty low this month; but turns out I had a couple of impulse splurges 😉  … like this one:

dress and denim

Rockmans dress. I do love a bargain, and this one was reduced from $90 to $35, and fit like it was made for me! So although I needed a new dress like a hole in the head, of course it had to came home (I sent a quick pic to Miss 19 first to see what she thought, and she agreed that I couldn’t leave it behind).

Crossroads denim jacket. Yes, I already have a denim jacket in my wardrobe. Trouble is, it’s really stiff and uncomfortable so I rarely actually wear it. This one on the other hand is so soft I just couldn’t resist; I took it with me to Melbourne (and it was just the thing for when I got chilly on the plane). It was $59.95, but the kids had given me a $25 Crossroads voucher for my birthday which eased the dent on my wallet somewhat 😉 .

Then I went op shopping … and came home with two pieces for a total of $5!

First was this gorgeous Flower maxi dress, so comfy. The elasticated straps had lost their stretch, so were miles too long, but it only took me about fifteen minutes to sew them to the correct length. This dress was $6, but was part of a half price sale so I got it for $3!

And forget what I said about not wanting to plan for winter, when I saw this fringed Crossroads poncho style top for $2, I grabbed it. I think it will be a great trans-seasonal piece to wear over a cami, and with jeans.

February summary

Items bought: 4
Total original ticket “value”: approx $157.95
Paid: $99.95
YTD Spend: $216.80

I went into this experiment thinking I would likely spend around $1000 a year on clothes. So far I am on track to spend about $1200 … we will just have to wait and see what the coming months hold!

It would be interesting to monitor what I spend on clothes in a year but I’m a bit too scared to do it! I absolutely love your Rockmans dress, it definitely looks like it’s made for you!

Haha yes, I’m feeling very brave to actually keep tabs on my spending. Thankfully hubster doesn’t usually read the blog so it can be our little secret! 😉

I rarely buy clothes these days, unless they are from the UK, as I despise the poor quality of the fashions available in Australia! That said, I do want a denim jacket… checked Vinnies Vogue a few times, as I would rather a longish larger one, rather than those short cropped numbers. And soft, too. Suggestions welcome, please. xx

I love op shopping! I’ve never bought clothes in the UK though so can’t comment on that, though I would like to go back and do something about that 😉

That Rockmans dress is gorgeous! I spend very sporadically throughout the year. I found that I stocked up really well in autumn/winter stuff in 2015 but forgot completely to look after my wardrobe for summer, so I felt like I was always behind the 8 ball. By the time I had time/energy/funds to think about it, the autumn/winter 2016 stuff was in stores!! Oops!
I am excited that some of the fashion colours/styles from last year are carrying over for this winter. I feel like I’m already set for the cooler weather – yay!

Thanks Kez! I love the bright colours. I know what you mean – I tend to get sick of my wardrobe late in the season – but as you said, by then it’s too late to find much in the shops, they’re all ready for the next season!

Oh this is such a clever thing to do! It’s amazing how it all adds up over a year! Love that Rockmans dress on you. Definitely had to be bought. It was made for you. x

Hubster and I have a deal. Every now and then he’ll buy a big ticket item (tools or computer stuff) and want to spoil me with something to the same value. Except there’s nothing I want. So now I just tell him all I want is to be able to buy clothes whenever the urge takes me, and we’ll call it even 😉 ,

Wow you are a savvy shopper.
I love the dress and the denim jacket.
You know your fashion and it suits you.

OK now THIS is what I like to see from fashion bloggers. A bit of “keepin’ it real” and a fascinating look into how the style gals manage to build their wardrobes. Love it. (plus I am an op-shop tragic who LOVES seeing the bargains that other people score)

Yeah baby! You should see the post I put on IG/Facebook today of what I was wearing, I might have had my ranty pants on 😉 .

Great post Janet and interesting to read how much you’ve spent. It’s something I really should consider more. January I bought a 3/4 sleeve knitted top because we were in Canberra and I was cold $20. Then I finally found a dream pair of jeans $120 and I think that’s been about it so far….unless you count undies!

Undies definitely don’t count!!! And $120 is worth it for a dream pair of jeans.

I am afraid to do this. We are having a no spend March.. So if I buy anything, I will need to hide it. Lol shhhhh

Oh I like this series Janet!
I went on a bit of a shopping spree last week. I don’t actually want to know what I spent, but it was all necessary. Mostly anyway 😉

It feels good to have a splurge every now and then doesn’t it! Will we see pics on your blog?!

That Rockmans dress is gorgeous. We don’t have a rockmans near us. I don’t even know where the closest one is. Perhaps there’s one in the city … I love how you’re keeping track of your expenditure. I find it best not to know 🙂 #teamIBOT

It’s a brave move, keeping track of it all. Luckily the hubster doesn’t tend to read my blog!

That Rockman’s dress is gorgeous. I can see why you couldn’t walk away from it! I did the same with an autograph skirt a couple of weeks ago. It was $80 reduced to $15. It’s a maxi skirt though so I nearly have to wear it under my armpits lol!

Fabulous buys! I was eyeing up that denim jacket last week but decided I didn’t need (yet) another.

Thanks for linking up on #stalkherstyle, Janet, it’s always lovely to have you!
