Fashionomics Report: September

Janet Camilleri · 03/10/2016 ·

Dear Fashionomics Friends,

It’s been a great month on the op shopping front, as you will soon see.

fashionomics report September

I have unfortunately put on weight, so was motivated to check out the op shop when none of my summer pants or shorts fitted 🙁 . I didn’t want to spend a lot as I am hopeful of getting active and dropping a size soon … but I found quite a few pieces which will tide me over in the meantime!

And if I didn’t tell you there were from the op shop, you’d never be able to tell. It’s amazing the quality you can find!

Earlier in the month, my sis and I went shopping in the city, and I found a couple more bargain bits and pieces (new this time!) there.

So let’s have a look at all my loot, before we get to my running total for fashion in 2016!

Summer Shorts and Pants

Check ’em out – from top to bottom – Target denim shorts $5 (worn with thrifted top – but more on this one shortly); black Witchery cheesecloth pants, $4; black 3/4 leggings, $3.50 (no pic sorry!); and black capri pants, $4.

Striped Dress

Couldn’t resist this striped dress on the specials rack Crossroads for $20 (was $39.95), one of those great “everywhere” dresses.

Fashionomics report: striped dress

Topping it all Off!

More stripes, featuring a cold shoulder. I have a black maxi skirt that I never wear, as it needed a fitted top to go with it. This one will do nicely; it was $19.95 at Cotton On.

This midriff top came from Valley Girl for a teeny $4.95 (I think it was originally $9.95). What can I say – it was a bargain, and I loved the style and print, even though there is NO CHANCE I will allow my midriff to show when wearing it! I will be wearing it over a plain black slip dress, thanks very much!

I also found some lovely tops at the op shop.

How gorgeous is this Katies hot pink top? Despite the fact that it’s a very on-trend off the shoulder style, I found it at my fave Salvos store for just $5.

This silky number has a Target Collections label. Although there is not much call for “corporate wear” in my life these days, for $5 it still had to come home with me. Besides, it will be handy for the occasional client meeting.

Target Collections top

It’s hard to find a well cut and flattering black tank top but this one from Paper Scissors does the trick! It was $5.

And finally – a tropical print top that is cool and casual. Not sure if it’s “me” or not, but for $4 I figured it was worth a try.

Secondhand Shoes?

Some people are funny about buying shoes from the op shop. I just wipe them with disinfectant, or put insoles in them. In all honesty, both of these looked like they had never been worn – and I’ve already been giving them a workout!

VYBE sandals

I can’t remember exactly what I paid for them – so I’ll hazard a guess and say $5 each.

Now it’s your turn – what goodies did you add to your wardrobe this month? Do you like to op shop?

You certainly nabbed some bargains. I never have any luck at my local op shops but doesn’t stop me trying.

Keep trying – you’ll hit the jackpot sooner or later! Or maybe the op shops in the west aren’t as good as those on the east coast? 😉

Oh I love that off the shoulder top from Katies! It happens to all of us when we put a few extra kgs on over winter. I’ve bought some shorts recently and I’m going to be putting my white legs on show. 🙂

Excellent bargain hunting. I find sleeveless tops really hard to buy as they need to be small enough in the arm holes to not gape and generous enough to not cling around the belly. That will be my goal for my summer wardrobe this year!

I often wear a little cami underneath to prevent this – but it’s not something you want to do when it’s really hot.

I’m always at the opshop these days buying something. I keep getting bigger and bigger! I’m pretty active so I’ll put it down to hormonal changes. I don’t recognise this body anymore. Op shops are great for those times when yo2u body moves into unfamilar sizes.

Oh I hear ya Theresa. And to think I used to get called “Anna” (short for Anorexia – I wasn’t, but I was very thin) when I first started work …

Great score and what a great idea to wear a midriff showing top over a sheath dress. Clever dressing.
Love your stripe dress for everywhere and everyday.
My latest find are two knee length denim shorts for $4 each.
An even better score was a red leather “Toffee” zippered case for iPad or papers. I had to just about turn the case inside out to read the label, and I’m sure that is why it was so cheap. The person putting price label on didn’t notice the tag…score to me 🙂
