Seeing as the hubster and I are celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary this week, I thought I’d share a few of our favourite wedding memories. (To catch up on my earlier posts, about our wedding disasters and the story of our wedding night, just click on the links).
The Dress
I felt like a fairytale princess in my fishtail wedding gown with train, which showed off my slender figure. Not much hope I’d fit it these days .
Ever the bargain hunter, I bought it second hand for a third of the original cost. In true 80’s style (even though it was 1990), there is more lace, beading, sequins, pearls, crystals and satin than you can poke a stick at! The tiara and veil were first worn by my sister two years before, and the start of our own family tradition; it was worn by our youngest sister when she got married, ten years after me. (Who knows, perhaps my nieces or Miss 17 might wear them at their weddings in years to come!)
My bridesmaids are wearing lipstick pink – almost red. I had my heart set on wine red (like a dark red rose) but of course wouldn’t you know it, couldn’t find fabric in that colour ANYWHERE in the lead up to our wedding.
Oh, and I feel old when I realise that little flower girl is now married with a little boy of her own!
2. Arriving at the Church
How handsome (and young!) does the hubster look – not quite 22 when we got married (so call me a cradle-snatcher – I was 23).
And how ecstatic do I look arriving at the church in the vintage car – and nervous and aware of the importance of the vows I’m about to make, in the picture where my bridesmaids are helping me with my veil!
3. Mr and Mrs
More precious memories … our first kiss as Mr and Mrs … cutting the cake (which I hated, but you can read about that in my Wedding Day Disasters post) … and with our bridal party.
4. A Candid Shot
Luckily the photographer caught this totally impromptu moment, of the hubster scooping me up in his arms. Just look at all the love on his face! I go weak at the knees even now, just looking at it.
5. Leaving our Reception
Hubster is trying to pop a balloon on the steering wheel, just in case you were wondering . I didn’t change into a going away dress – I loved my wedding gown so much I didn’t want to change out of it, and loved all the attention we got when we arrived at our hotel in full bridal regalia!
How long have you been married? Have you shared any wedding photos on your blog – if so leave a link in the comments so I can check them out!

Very glamorous, would love to see you reenact the crime today. Would you choose the same dress? I would hope you would at least choose the same guy?!

Even though fashions have changed, I wouldn’t change a thing on my dress – it was perfect. And I wouldn’t change the groom either!!!

Those photos are gorgeous, Janet. I’m pleased that you had puffed sleeves on your gown and the bridesmaids gowns. ‘Anne’ would definitely approve! We need to bring back the puffs! I’m in the same boat as you, my junior bridesmaid is now married with three children. How did that happen? Happy anniversary to you and the hubster! xo

Happy Anniversary!! If it’s been 24 years than I’m guessing you were married in 1990? The fashion looks very familiar to me LOL Absolutely love the photo’s but particularly the one where your hubby has swooped you up in his arms and is looking so lovingly at you. If I were you, my heart would skip a beat every time I looked at that photo *sigh*!!
Janet Camilleri says
Yes, 1990 it was – and I absolutely adore that photo. Even better, he still looks at me like that sometimes!!!

I had red bridesmaid dresses for my bridesmaids too. I had a deep cherry red, I didn’t want fire engine red. Love all your photos Janet. I was 6 when you got married. Does that make you feel even older? 😉
Janet Camilleri says
If I’d known you then, you could have been a flowergirl too!

Love your photos Janet! So beautiful! Happy anniversary!

They are beautiful photos Janet. What a lovely wedding it was and I loved the colour of the bridesmaid dresses – very striking. You both made a dashing couple!
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Kathy. Looking forward to our silver wedding anniversary next year!

Thanks for your comment Janet on my wedding flowers. Yours are gorgeous. And look at you! You are quite the child bride. So young looking and so gorgeous! I remember Copperart back in the day. You’re right. They used to have quite a large range of artificial flowers and quite realistic looking too. They are readily available in a lot of places but quite expensive. The same things are available online from overseas for a lot cheaper. Lucky the whole world is our shopping store now and we have access to cheaper options.

It’s fun to see these photos after seeing your daughter wearing your dress the other day on instagram. :)SWEET! And I can see why you’d go weak in the knees for that look your husband is giving you. The dude is in LOVE!

He still is and so am I 🙂
