Going Retro in Redlands: Bayside Antiques and Collectables Centre

Got a hankering to go retro in Redlands? I know just the place …  you might have seen it on the Great South East on Channel 7 last weekend, which featured Bloomfield Street, in Cleveland.

One of the points of interest was the Bayside Antiques and Collectables Centre, which the hubster and I just happened to visit for the first time recently – despite passing the shopfront on an almost daily basis for several years! For shame …

We had no idea just how much was inside …

The “diner girl” out the front is a familiar sight to most Redland locals …

Amazing Antiques of all Kinds

Inside is a regular treasure trove! I was fascinated by the retro clothing, toys and household items while the hubster was engrossed in the old tools, military memorabilia and other junk interesting stuff.

It’s a very weird feeling when you see toys and other items from your own childhood in an ANTIQUES store ;-). For example, the Enid Blyton books below; the rocking chair; and the View Master – all things I once played with!

Below are more of the objects that brought childhood memories flooding back – old Women’s Weekly magazines, the electric jug, the school issue exercise book, the crystal set from my Grandma’s dressing table, her old Singer treadle sewing machine, and a high chair just like I used to sit in, 45 years ago!

Going Retro in Redlands – 60’s memorabilia

When I was in my teens, there must have been a resurgence of interest in all things oriental. I had a jewellery box very similar to the one below, and a couple of these Japanese style dolls. And who could forget this cheeky little album?!

There was so much to look at. Thankfully they provide a comfy cafe space with complimentary tea and coffee so we could rest our weary feet.

Next time you’re in town, make sure you check out the best place to go retro in Redlands!

NB This is not a sponsored post, we just fell in love with the Bayside Antiques and Collectables Centre. You can like them on Facebook, here!
