Can you guess my middle name from the following list of fascinating facts?
- My middle name first appeared as a name for girls in the late 1920’s.
- It was my mother’s first name (she was born in the 40’s).
- However, it only reached the peak of it’s popularity with the era of hippies and flower children: the 60’s and 70’s.
- It’s the first name of: a famous Australian Olympic swimmer; a British comedian; and an actress best known from her role in the TV show Gilligan’s Island*.
- It’s also part of the name of a P&O ship** that I’ve been on for two different cruises (Noumea/Vanuatu; and New Zealand).
- It means: awakening, daybreak, sunrise, new beginnings, a new day.
- Oh – and the photo above is yet another clue!

Your P&O clue gave it away for me, so YES I guessed it! 🙂 I don’t have a middle name, kind of a long story. It was going to be Dee, but when mum said my name, people said, “What does “D” stand for?” She didn’t want me having to explain that my whole life. Yet they STILL named me “Aroha” because you know, that doesn’t need explaining….MUCH! 🙂
Great clues. I don’t know anyone else with the middle name Dawn.
My middle name is Elizabeth, named after my late nan who was always called Betty. My eldest also has the same middle name and my middle child is Elizabeth but we call her Beth.
I love the name Dawn…it’s not very popular these days, though, is it? Shame as it’s a beautiful one!
No I didn’t guess but I loved the game…. I know a couple of Dawns.
You clever girl, what a great post! It’s a name you don’t hear much these days, although I do work with a lovely lady called Dawn also!

You kept me guessing right until the end! I’ve never know anyone called Dawn. It is quite unusual these days. My middle name is Faye. Mum gave me the same one as hers.
I got it as soon as you said Australian Olympic Swimmer…although the hippy bit gave me a big clue too.
I wish my middle name was Dawn. Mine is Narelle….*shudders*. I was going to be Leisa Marie (I’m a few months older than Lisa Marie Presley so I would have been the original!!) but my bossy Nanna said “No!”
OMG! I’m embarrassed. I didn’t get any of the glues. Your graphic got my attention on Bloglovin. Great idea for a post! ????????
