Household Tip: Organising your Photos

Janet Camilleri · 03/04/2013 ·

If your home is anything like mine, you will have stacks of photos thrown into boxes or bags … what a mess!

photos in a box

Trying to find a particular photo can be very time consuming, as you have to trawl through ALL of them to finally locate the one you want!

The solution is simple – brown paper bags. They’re acid free so won’t harm your photos, and you can sort and store them in whatever category makes sense to you.

simple photo storage system

I have a bag for each of our homes, family weddings, for each child (once their initial baby album was filled I never got around to doing any more), my childhood, hubster’s childhood, pets, holidays …

Then they can be kept in your photo boxes, but they are neatly filed and easily accessed whenever you are looking for a specific pic!

How do you store your photos from the good ol’ days before digital cameras, Flickr and Facebook?

Great idea Janet! Digital pictures are great but I find I don’t print them and tend to forget about them.

I’m the same Rita, this is a great system for all the old photos from the days before digital cameras!

I love a simple solution. I often keep them in the envelopes from the photo shop. Are they okay for storage?

Good question – I’m not sure. Do you label the outside of the envelope so you know what’s inside?

Don’t worry I’ve sorted some but still have another box to go!

have some in albums, but mostly still in the packets from when they were processed. Really need to go through all of them and cull them as i have a few boxes of packets.

I know the feeling. So many duds that really should just be thrown out!

Great idea Janet! I have so many great pictures from pre-digital camera days that live in plastic bags these days, would be great to have them organised. Thanks 🙂

Oh gosh Janet, you found all my old photos didn’t you? Oops!
I really should sort them… but on the other hand I’m almost glad I don’t have hard copies of all my digital photos!
    Great idea! x

Great idea Janet, I love that the brown paper bags are acid-free. I am hoping to put all my photos in albums soon, but in the meantime…I might get some brown paper bags to keep them extra safe, until this happens. Thanks for the inspiration.

It does make them easier to find at least, I love scanning them and using them to illustrate blog posts. Thanks for stopping by Charlene!
