I Married My Dad’s Best Friend!

Janet Camilleri · 07/06/2013 ·

Hugh Hefner and Crystal
It’s not what you’re thinking … honest!

Now before you get some ridiculous image of a gorgeous young thing (ahem – that would be me), being bound in holy matrimony to some dirty old man (somebody of a similar vintage to Sean Connery, Hugh Hefner or the like) – let me explain. It wasn’t always so!

The hubster and I have been married for 23 years and over that time have gotten to know each other’s families quite well. (Never mind the fact that we refer to them as the outlaws – it’s said in affection – honest!)

I have long thought there was some truth in the saying that girls often look to marry a man like their father – because I could see a lot of similarities between the hubster, and my Dad. They are both real gentlemen, clean cut, and considerate. They are both handymen, and have a gift for making and modifying things for the house and yard. They share an interest in building and racing remote control boats (don’t yawn!). And, most importantly, they both adore *ME* – oh, and our two kids as well!

However, being men, it took them a little while to cotton on to all the things they have in comon – but these days, I think it’s safe to say that my hubster and my Dad are BFF’s. So much so that when my Dad rings, hubster will chat to him for an hour and then hang up – without my Dad even thinking to ask to talk to me. Hello?! It’s enough to make any Number One Child, and beloved daughter, pout!

Sneaky pic of the BFF's
Here they are, caught unawares, having a D&M. My Dad’s the one going incognito in the sombrero; the hubster is wearing a crown because it just looks cute! πŸ˜‰

Seriously though, I’m just really pleased that they get along so well.

How does your hubster get along with your parents?

I so get you with this !!!! I married my Dad for sure – A is so similar in so many ways it is actually scarey if I think about it !!!
But worst of all (for me anyway) is the fact that if it comes to ‘taking sides’ my folks ALWAYS take his side – and I’m their only daughter !!!!! I do more than pout when that happens !! LOL
    Have the best weekend !

I think that’s really awesome!.. and kinda cute! lol

My hubby and dad have only met once – nearly 15 years ago – so they have no kind of relationship which I sometimes think is sad. I suppose it can’t be helped because my dad lives more than ‘a few’ kilometres away – more like two states!

Yep distance would make it a lot harder for any sort of relationship to develop

Aww isn’t that sweet! My hubby and my dad get on well. But my hubby and my brother and brother in law – they are like BFFs. My BIL stays once a week, I am sure it is just so he can talk footy non stop with my hubby! It is great that everyone gets on so well!

Actually hubster and my B-I-L get on great too – in fact he was best man at our wedding and my sis was matron of honour. It’s nice when family can become your friends!

My husband gave my dad the thing he’s always wanted most, and that I was NEVER gonna give him on my own… grand kids. They’re pretty tight these days, I had to have two daughters just so we ruled in numbers again.

My dad never got to meet my husband, but my step-father always thought the world of him. And my mum thinks he’s just the bees knees, in no small way because he does lots of handyman jobs for her. πŸ™‚

It makes life so much easier if your folks approve / like your partner!

He he Love this…my hubby and my dad get along but they are worlds apart. Sometimes my hubby feels like my dad always moaning at me about the small things. You know the ones. Why dont you ever put things back where they came from? My dad thinks the world of my man as he was the most clean cut, respectable man that I ever brought home. πŸ™‚

LOL yes I can understand your Dad’s feelings, Miss 16 is on to her 2nd boyfriend and he’s a lot nicer than the first. Hopefully her taste keeps improving!

Yep Boatman and dad have ate a bit in common including their band jokes! And they get along really well too which is nice. Boatman has no problems going around to see him when I’m a work and taking a couple of beers

What a great feeling that must be. My hubby is almost the opposite of my dad, which does present some interesting moments! LOVE the sombrero xx
