In Praise of Ginger Female Cats

Janet Camilleri · 12/11/2015 ·

Miss Fleur is very proud of the fact that she is one of the rare breed of ginger female cats.

we love ginger female cats

According to the interwebs, female ginger cats are quite uncommon, making up about 20% to 25% of all orange cats. Apparently it’s all down to the X chromosome – male cats have only one, whereas females have two, and BOTH have to carry the ginger gene for a ginger female cat to result.

Of course, Miss Fleur wants everybody to know that she is no ORDINARY ginger female cat; she is in fact a CHAMPAGNE ginger, with all the luxe tastes implied. I’m thinking she might be just a little bit of a diva 😉  … her nickname is the Princess-Diva-Puss-Kitty!

Miss Fleur isn’t the first ginger female cat I’ve had the honour of owning. Our very first family cat was also a ginger female – the adorable Miss Kitty, who arrived into our hearts and home when I was about eleven. She was the most sweet-natured and affectionate cat I think I’ve ever met.

Miss Fleur and Miss Kitty have one other big thing in common, apart from the colour of their fur: their affectionate nature.

My sister was staying with us recently, and commented that she has never met such an affectionate kitty as our Miss Fleur. Maybe it’s because Fleur is an indoor kitty, but she just loves to be around us, and frequently begs demands attention such as pats and “wuv”.

One of my Facebook followers, Barb, has said much the same thing in praise of ginger female cats. “I love seeing your pics of Miss Fleur because she reminds me of the loveliest ginger cat that I used to own”. Miss Fleur even gives me hugs – see below!

It seems that ginger female cats are rather special … although it wouldn’t take a genius to figure out, I think ALL cats are special!

Are you a fan of ginger female cats too?!

Awww. She’s beautiful Janet! When I was a kid we had a Red Persian which are pretty rare. She had a foul temper like redheads are purported to have 🙂

      I don’t think I’ve come across a Red Persian myself …
