I’ve Just Discovered Sussan

Janet Camilleri · 24/02/2014 ·

I Must Confess: I’ve just discovered Sussan – in time for Autumn/Winter 2014!

I’m coming a bit late to the party; I’ve seen heaps of other fashion bloggers rave about them (Kimba Likes, Style and Shenanigans, Sonia Styling, Redcliffe Style … )

But the truth is, Sussan has generally been out of my price range. As a result, I haven’t really ventured in there too often over the years.

But when they had a sale a couple of weeks back, I was lured in.

And I’ve fallen in love.

Yes, the clothes are a little more expensive than what I’m used to paying.

BUT.

They fit.

They suit the figure of this Middle Aged Mama, and that is no small thing (my figure either, LOL).

This is becoming increasingly rare now that I am not a young woman with a stick figure anymore. Sure, Miss 17 can walk into any store and pick up a $10 item off the sale rack because she’s so tiny. But that just doesn’t happen for me these days (except for my latest op shop bargain!).

But I digress.

Here are two things I’ve put on layby at Sussan for Autumn/Winter 2014, because I know that when I factor in the cost per wear ratio, they will come up trumps. And by the time I actually pay them off, it might actually be cool enough to wear them!

Love the look and feel of these: a very fine, very soft, cord fabric πŸ™‚
Denim knit pencial skirt from Sussan
“Fake” denim skirt is actually a soft and forgiving knit fabric – flattering on my middle aged figure!

I’m also in love with this leather look skirt … I don’t NEED it but it is definitely a WANT!

On the wishlist for sure …

So it’s official: Sussan now gets the Middle Aged Mama tick of approval!

What about you? Are you lusting after anything at Sussan for Autumn/Winter 2014?!

    Welcome to the party!

I’ve been wearing Sussan for twenty years and somehow, during all that time, I’ve always found something to love.

Sometimes, it just been sleepwear and accessories, but more recently, I’ve bought jeans, dresses and shorts. I’ll be heading there shortly to stock up on long singlet tees to layer over skinny jeans for winter.

I agree it has become more expensive over time, however their loyalty programme is one of the best and I love receiving a $50 voucher every now and then, particularly as it as few conditions attached (minimum spend/short time frame in which to spend).

I’m now a member of their loyalty programme so will be interested to see if it’s as good as you say!

Yup, huge fan of Sussan here. I’ve always loved their sleepwear range, and bought quite a few tops and stretchy skirts to wear during my pregnancy. When I was a young mother, they were fab too as I could always pick something fabulous from the sale rack.

A few years ago when I was working in the city, I was always in their flagship CBD store. Yes, they still have some more “nanna style” pieces but also some amazingly versatile and classic, yet up to date, pieces.

The loyalty programme is just the best – especially when they have double points offers!

For years I thought Sussan was a bit nana-ish; and then a bit expensive-ish. But I am happy to pay if I can find clothes I love that flatter MY figure, and theirs seem to do the trick!

Sussan has been a hit & miss with me but I’ve learned that sometimes you just have to go in & check out what they’ve got. The past few times, thankfully, I’ve managed to score a few beauties…on SALE! Like a random sale and not on old stock either. So be sure to drop in there once a while. Because you’ll never know when that leather look skirt might have some sort of random special on.

Great tip – thanks Norlin – I’ll let you know how I go! πŸ˜‰

Thanks for the mention! Sussan does have some great options and I have been wearing their PJs for years. Rachel x

You’ll quickly become a Sussan fan! I tend to layby quote often which helps make me feel like I’m not spending so much! I agree with the other ladies – their loyalty program is great, as are their sales. Thank you for the mention!

Yes! That’s exactly why I laybyed too πŸ™‚

I must just have to pop in and have a look – I have NO fashion sense so maybe a nice sales woman might take pity on me and dress me well! x

Use to wear Sussan in my early twenties, but not for a while, might have to go window shopping.

I love Sussan’s clothes. I always find something stylish and the right shape or size for my petite curvy frame. They have a lot of pants and skirts with elasticized waists which are very comfy (without looking like ‘Nanna pants’!) They also have an extremely good loyalty program where you gathers points and eventually a gift voucher to spend on more clothing. Just what a girl needs!

I may need to CASE that fake denim skirt. Sounds like just what I’m after. I don’t even know where my nearest Sussan store is.

I have never really been into a Sussan store but will take a look the next time I’m out and about. Glad you have found another source of inspiration (and temptation!) for your wardrobe!

      24/02/2014 at 9:23 pm

Yep, just what I needed (not)! Another shop to tempt me into parting with my hard-earned $$$!

It’s one of those shops that on the odd occasion that I have ventured in I have found something I like but then the price often is what puts me off… Perhaps it’s worth another shot!

    • Janet Camilleri says

      24/02/2014 at 9:25 pm

Yes, price has always been a major factor for me too. I’m at the point now though where I don’t mind spending a little more for something I really love that looks good on me and fits well … even if it means buying less clothes but loving what I do buy.

  12. Tegan says

    24/02/2014 at 8:28 pm

I have had a look in there a couple of times but the price has always turned me off. At the moment I am really loving Best and Less, they have some really nice dresses that make me feel stylish and I don’t have to take out a loan to buy them!

The Sussan sales are great. My kids sometimes buy me vouchers from there for birthday/mother’s day. I really do like their winter range.

I bought my winter stockings/tights from there last year after the receptionist at work recommended them. I must say I love the stockings….will be going back there this season for some new designs!

The price would generally put me off shopping at Sussan, however I should probably utilize the old lay-by option again. I used to be the queen of lay-by. The Bogan Queen Of Lay-By. Has a ring to it lol

I very VERY rarely go clothes shopping. I think the whole 100km trip to get there is the reason why πŸ˜‰ But I love seeing reviews like this one letting me in one what’s actually affordable and made for the not so young me! So next time I head over to Big Town I can check out the stores I’ve read about.
I LOVE the pants and the dress. They look really comfy. Not sure on the skirt though, I’ve never been a leather girl myself πŸ™‚
