On top of your kitchen cupboards …

Janet Camilleri · 08/05/2013 ·

… is a real no-man’s land in home decor.

Just what do you DO with that little gap between the top of your cupboards, and the ceiling? Most of the time, it is ignored. Neglected. Home to grease, grime and the odd dust bunny.

It’s too high up to have anything that you need to access regularly. Small objects and photos are not easily seen from below; it’s impossible to water plants that high up.

I decided to collect blue and green glassware, inspired purely by the fact that I already had a couple of vases and a set of wine goblets. I love adding to it with a few discount store and op shop buys.

Here are some other ideas gleaned from Pinterest that might just inspire you!

jars of beans
How about some jars of beans and pulses?
candles
Love the big chunky candle sticks!
words
Inspirational words and an old crate
chicken and topiary
More words, this time with a chicken and fake topiary
silver and china
Silver jugs and fine china serving ware

What do you have on top of your kitchen cupboards (dust bunnies, grease and dead flies don’t count!)?

Today I’m joining up for Wordless Wednesday with the lovely Trish at My Little Drummer Boys.

You know I’ve never lived in a house with cupboards all the way to the ceiling but it must be common, coz I had to work really hard to find the photos above on Pinterest!

I have the wooden words ‘country kitchen’ on mine. I did spy and admire your bottle collection in an earlier post this week šŸ˜‰

To be honest I really need to take a more up to date photo … it’s grown a lot since then!

At the moment, I store big items that I don’t use that regularly… and if I need them, I have my tall husband on hand. Love your blue and green bottles.

    Hi Janet,
When we built our new house after the flood, I specifically asked for no gaps, cause I hate dealing with grease and dust bunnies! Do love what you and pinterest have done though! šŸ˜‰

I can certainly understand your thinking Liz, coz at the moment my beautiful glassware collection needs a good wash!

My cupboards reach the ceiling too! Great because I don’t have the ‘dead space’ but no so great because I can never find a stool when I need to reach the top!! xx

I never really noticed the whole cupboards to the ceiling thing til I jumped on Pinterest and now I’m seeing it’s very common!

I don’t have any high cupboards – but the top of my fridge I have a basket of lunch stuff and some blue and white!

We have a wine rack cabinet built in over the top of our fridge šŸ™‚

I’m with Robyn, mine go to ceiling thank goodness, because otherwise they would be bugs, dust and all sorts of nasties up there! šŸ™‚

Looks good and the best thing, usually its so far away you can’t see the dust!

I dunno – I’m looking at my glassware and thinking it really needs a wash – but hopefully nobody else notices!

*I* can see it but I’m hoping nobody else notices šŸ˜‰
