Op Shop Finds for Mama and Daughter

Janet Camilleri · 05/12/2016 ·

It feels like it’s been ages since I last shared some of my op shop finds …

Mind you, it *has* been a while since I’ve even been into an op shop! Now that Miss 20 has a full time job in the city, I no longer have my favourite op shopping sidekick to lead me astray keep me company.

Miss 20 was also feeling the lack of a good bargain hunt, so on Saturday we headed to our nearest op shop and as luck would have it, we both had a very productive trip!

Now it can be quite rare for this to happen to both of us on the same day. Sometimes I am the one that comes home the winner (ie with the most op shop finds!); other days she scores all the loot, and I come home empty handed.

My Op Shop Finds

I spent all of $20, which bought:

Six books ($1 each):

six books from the op shop

A pair of Curtain Wonderland turquoise curtains – like new – for $10, which are already hanging in the family room:

blue curtains

and this dress:

50s style

I feel very 50’s housewife in this dress! It’s obviously been sewn at home, and has been absolutely beautifully made – plus it’s almost like it was made for me! The fabric is lovely and soft – and when I tried it on to show the hubster, his reaction was something like this:

I think it’s safe to assume he approved, don’t you?!

Miss 20’s Loot

I’ve trained my daughter well! She spent $21 and came home with two dresses, a pair of shoes and a black playsuit …

Oh, and as you can see in the background of the last photo, Miss 20’s room is just as messy as ever 😉 !

Heading to the op shop makes a nice change at this time of year, to all the commercial Christmas hype elsewhere – and what Christmas clobber they might have, is super duper cheap …

Tell me about your latest op shop finds!

Great finds girls. That dress totally looks like it was made just for you… gorgeous !
I love to op shop. However lately I’ve been donating more than buying as we are about to move. While visiting my new neighbourhood last week though, I spied some op shops and I’m looking forward to checking them out : )

I took a bag of donations in with me on Saturday 🙂 , and Miss 20 and I often find our cast-offs on the racks of our local op shop! Yes, checking out the op shops in your new neighbourhood will definitely be a buzz!

Janet Camilleri is an Australian bloggerHi - I'm Janet Camilleri aka the Middle Aged Mama; crazy cat lady, award-winning business woman, and mother of two grown children. I might be a middle aged woman, but that doesn't mean I've lost all interest in looking stylish! I love chocolate, chick lit, cruising holidays and the husbear - and not necessarily in that order wink. I live in Brisbane, Australia, and I'm learning how to fashion a new life now that we have an empty nest - did somebody say "travel"?!
