All About Our New Home

Janet Camilleri · 12/10/2018 ·

You might have heard the news that we’ve bought a new house.

But other than casually dropping it into my Sentence a Day posts for August and September, I haven’t really said much about it here. However I’ve had so many questions, that I’m now going to tell you all about our new home!

our new home

Are we moving far, you ask? No, we will be staying in the same area. In fact, promise you won’t laugh – but we’re actually shifting just up the street. What can I say, we like the area!

It looks like we will be moving in early in November; we want to get the interior painted first, and the painter couldn’t start work on it until next week. It’s a lot easier to paint a house before there’s anything in it, I’m sure you’ll agree, so worth the wait.

Introducing Our New Home

Our new home is bigger and better in many ways; like this one, it was built about ten years ago.

Instead of a lowset, it’s a two storey (I’m never sure whether to spell it “story” or “storey”!) with four bedrooms.

Downstairs there is a double lock up garage, generous entry hall, media room (or fifth bedroom), lounge room, laundry and powder room (half bath), with a kitchen and family/dining area which opens out onto a large patio space (4m x 8m).

entry and media room

Upstairs is a good sized landing, rumpus room with large walk in closet, bathroom and toilet, and the bedrooms – the master with a walk in robe and ensuite with double shower.

What I *really* love is that both the rumpus and master bedroom open out onto the upstairs deck (again, 4m x 8m), and there are views out to the east over Cleveland and North Stradbroke Island, fresh bay breezes, and we can even see glimpses of the water! I have a feeling we will be spending a lot of time out on that deck …

And I have big plans for my new office. I work from home, and initially thought I would claim the media room/fifth bedroom that opens off the entry downstairs. But … right or wrong “the boys” (hubster and Mr 24) want to have another media room (we have a projector and screen and four recliners), so I’ve been allocated the upstairs rumpus room. Not that I’m complaining! It’s an amazing space and I plan to have my desk along one wall, a couch along the other (my “Instagram wall” as I’m calling it, so I can use it as a backdrop for photos and when I do online workshops or client meetings). I can already envision hosting my next blogging workshop out on that gorgeous deck!

Lots of Work to Be Done!

It all sounds amazing – and it is – but it has also always been a rental, and is in desperate need of some TLC (some of which we spotted ourselves, and some which only came to light through a building and pest inspection). However this allowed us to negotiate a better price, so in all in all we’re pretty happy with our purachse.

Currently it has vertical blinds throughout, which I’m not crazy about; we also don’t like the outside colour, it’s kind of pink. But that’s okay, it needs painting so we can take care of that in the new year.

There’s no cat patio, but we will but putting one in the “L”, where it can be accessed from the back door in the garage, and the laundry. Lots to do and lots to plan!

In a way it’s a blank canvas, just waiting for us to add our own touches. It needs new carpet, and there’s no landscaping. The block is the same size as where we are now, but because the house is two levels, we will have a lot more yard.

So there you have it – all the goss on our new home!

It looks lovely Janet and it must tick a lot of boxes for you to go through the buying, selling, moving process. We moved about 5 minutes away when we left our home of 23 years for our current one. It ticked a lot of boxes for us and has been perfect and definitely the right choice – I hope yours turns out to be a keeper for the next couple of decades at least. Keep us updated with some pics when you move in and I hope your old place sells quickly.
