Pet Names for Your Boyfriend or Husband

Janet Camilleri · 01/12/2017 ·

Do you use pet names for your boyfriend or husband?!

Pet names for husbands - see how cuddly he is?
See how cuddly he is?!

I use them much more than I use my hubster’s real name – which is Lawrence.

In the early days, when we were just boyfriend and girlfriend, I fell into the habit of calling him Lawrie, then Lawrie-Bear and from there it became just, “Bear”.

How My Husband Got His Pet Name

There are many reasons why it is such an apt nickname.

First of all, I am have always loved teddy bears – and the hubster is the Teddy-Bear-in-Chief. Like any teddy bear, he’s beary cute, not to mention the fact that he’s always there for me AND he’s a great listener.

He is exceptionally cuddly and furry – I’m not a fan of the current trend of men waxing their body hair – I love my Bear’s fuzzy chest! (Even if his chest hairs do tickle my nose when we are cuddled up at night! Or is that a case of TMI?!)

Occasionally he can even be a bit of a growly Bear, but I still love him ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

The hubster also gets a couple of variations on this nickname – such as M’Bear, Lozzie Bear, Loz, Kizzie Bear, and Kiz. I’m pretty sure most men would find a nickname like “Kiz” embarrassing, but my Bear takes it all in his stride – and after all, he does give the most awesome hugs and kizzies (not kissies – kizzies!)!

Then there are all the more common endearments like “love”, “darling”, “honey”, “sweetie” and the like.

I’m sorry if this post is sickeningly sweet … it’s just that this month marks 30 years since our very first date, and I can’t help feeling a bit warm and fuzzy as I reflect on the wonderful life we have together!

What embarrassing pet names for your boyfriend or husband, have you come up with!

No pet names here and that’s 22 years down the track. Hubby’s sister and partner had really gross pet names, when we first started dating and that kind of turned us off. For the life of me, I can’t recall now what they were.

No pet names here either, I call my husband by his initials though not very romantic of me! I hope your bear has a great birthday.

The main pet name my boyfriend I use is “Bean”. I’m not sure how that one came around but it just kind of stuck! We also use sweet pea and kitten on occasion ๐Ÿ™‚ x

It’s because you have always been a bit of a Julia Jellybean … and it stuck. Then you sprouted and grew, just like a bean! x

Happy Birthday to your Bear, I hope he has a great day! I mostly just call Dave ‘Babe’. When we were younger and early in our relationship I used to sometimes call him My Little Bug coz he loved bugs and insects so much, but it was more something I would use in writing cards or letters to him, or as his name in my phone contacts.

Happy birthday to Lawrence… or Bear!

My dad was a big one for pet-names and it still warms my heart to remember how he addressed all of us. Something that was just ‘ours’.

Aww, how sweet! Nope, no pet names for hubby here, but he does call me ‘liddle’ as in little, cause I am 5ft 2 and he is 6ft 3!

I have pet names for everyone. They just come out of my mouth! James (Husband) is Ginger Hunk, Millsy, Pooh or Gingi the cats are Sashimi, Sashi, or snow leopard, Piperini, peperoรฑi, or Lion Cub, my nephew William is Ghost rider or ninim. I’m terrible!

I haven’t called my husband his name to his face since our wedding day in 2007. We call each other Babs for reasons which escape me now. Even our daughter is joining in on it (we call her Bubs or Bubby Girl)
