Put Your Best Foot Forward with Marks & Spencer

Janet Camilleri · 22/05/2017 ·

This post is in collaboration with Marks and Spencer and Shopping Links.

If you want to put your best foot forward in life (and who doesn’t?!) – never underestimate the power of a good shoe to put a spring in your step, and a smile on your dial!

It’s easy to smile when you’ve got happy feet!

And when I say a good shoe, I mean ones that both look AND feel good.

How can you take on life if you don’t have happy feet?!

As Marilyn Monroe famously said, “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world”.

Are you ready for me, world?! Catch me if you can!

The Power of a Good Shoe

I love the way a great pair of shoes can change the way I feel.

For example, nothing makes me feel more womanly and confident, than hearing the tapย of my own heels as I walk.

Ever since I first saw Dorothy with her ruby slippers in the Wizard of Oz, I’ve had a thing for red shoes*!

However, I’ve reached a point in my life where I won’t sacrifice comfort for fashion.

After one almost disastrous incident recently, I’d actually sworn off court shoes.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I just don’t seem to be able to walk in them anymore. I’ve tried different sizes, different styles, with pantihose and without, with insoles and arch support – and while they may look great, it all falls apart as soon as I take one step.

Perhaps I’m just not used to wearing heels anymore. Or maybe it’s just that as I’m growing older, my sense of balance is not what it once was.

Just quietly, I was devastated.

I *love* heels – they make my legs look amazing! There is something about a high heel, that just lifts my sole soul.

Strap Yourself In for the Adventure of Life!

Happily, I don’t have to sacrifice heels altogether.

If I want to put my best foot forward, I now make a point of looking for heels that are strapped securely to my foot.

It’s a win/win/win situation – I can actually walk, I feel confident, and I look great!

Bit overdressed for my home office, but hey, if the high heels* fit and make you smile – why not!

Although I enjoy getting glammed up and wearing high heels, it’s not something I do everyday.

Put Your Best Foot Forward Every Day

I work from home, so most days you will find me in something more practical.

Although it’s tempting to slop around in slippers, I find it easier to get into the workday groove by donning a pair of ballet flats or runners instead (and that way, I don’t have to be embarrassed if the door bell rings!).

They can be just as comfy as slippers, but make me feel more professional.

And who says everyday shoes should be boring?

Step into my Shoe-Drobe …

I’m all about getting the most bang for my buck, so you won’t find me buying shoes for a one-off outfit. I prefer footwear that will work with lots of pieces from my wardrobe.

For this reason, I mostly wear neutral shoes: black, nude, white, even metallics are great as a neutral. The one exception is red – ever since I first saw Dorothy in her ruby slippers, I’ve had a thing for red shoes … they can brighten even the dullest day!

And last but not least, I can rely on a great shoe to lift my spirits – because while my dress size may change (and often does), my shoe size doesn’t!

Have you discovered the power of a good shoe yet?!

I love the red shoes and they look comfy! I can’t walk in heels so really only wear low heels or platforms etc…

I used to be able to but the last year or two have really struggled, not sure why!

Click your heels together Dorothy, Kansas is waiting. What great looking shoes and as you say being able to have comfort and style together is hard to find but great when you do.
