Sequins for Everyday?

Janet Camilleri · 28/02/2014 ·

singlet - sequins for everyday Like most girls middle aged mamas, I love a bit of bling – and sequins are right at the top of the list.

What’s not to love?

They sparkle. They shimmer. They shine. They catch the light; and attract attention.

You really can’t go past sequins for a bit of night-time glitz and glamour.

Although I’ve been noticing: sequins have gone mainstream.

Sequins for Everyday

These days they’re turning up on everyday outfits.

While at first I rejoiced and saw this as a good thing, I soon had my doubts when I purchased a sequin singlet a few years back now.

It was white, with shimmery silver sequins from the bust up (a bit like the one in the picture above). I was sure it would soon become a wardrobe favourite.

But the first time I wore it, I was alarmed to discover the downside.

Sequins are seriously scratchy!

My upper arms were covered in tiny scratches. Ouch! (Seems like I’m all about itches and scratches this week. Go figure …)

Last year I tried again, with this $12 tshirt from Kmart. The sequins looked more subtle and FELT softer. Until I wore the shirt. Once again, my arms were scratched to pieces :-(.

sequin tshirtFrom now on, I’ll make sure it’s cool enough to wear a jumper or jacket with it to protect my delicate skin.

I thought it was just me, so I was delighted to come across a similar rant, from Jojo at ICurvy.

I can’t help wondering what would happen if I wore a mini skirt covered in sequins (the lovely Suger rocked one recently). Would I end up looking like I’d had a fight with a barbed wire fence by the end of the night?!

Do you wear sequins for everyday, as well as night? Or like me do you avoid wearing any scratchy sequins?

While I love looking at them I don’t like wearing them any more cause every time I use to wear them the Sequins would fall off especially after being washed.

I wish some one would make one where Sequins don’t came off, don’t scratch when on you & don’t cost the earth can still be nice and cheap

    (((( Hugs ))))

I love sequins even for everyday! I don’t know but for me, they don’t seem to have the scratchy effect…

I love sequins but mainly around the neckline because like you my skin gets irritated too from the scratching and rubbing.

I have a t shirt which gives me a dreadful rash on my belly because of the decoration on the front. It’s not sequins but some sort of think paint which irritates me.

Have you tried wearing a tank top or cami underneath? That might help!

I know what you mean about the scratchy thing. I bought a Stella McCartney top with sequins from Target once. Just didn’t do it for me. It looks so pretty on but just wasn’t practical. Bling suits you!
