Welcome to the lovely Aroha from Colours of Sunset, as she shows us her sentimental version of #shelfstyle!
Aroha is another one of the fabulous group of people known as Team IBOT – the ones who make sure the blogs that link up with Essentially Jess on a Tuesday, receive some comment love! The Queensland contingent of Team IBOT met up recently when Jess herself came to the Gold Coast on a family holiday …
So without further ado, let’s find out more about Aroha and THOSE shelves!
1. What room are your shelves in?
These particular ones are at the end of the kitchen in the office “area” (not a room per se.)
2. How long have you had them?
Good question! We have two other shelving units (a 2×2 and a 2×4) and I can’t remember when we got any of them but probably about 3 years.
3. What do you store in the drawers/cupboards?
JUNK! Nah, mostly toys, books, things that otherwise don’t have their own place in the house.
4. What is your favourite decorator item on your shelves and why?
There’s a few items on there I love. My grandmother’s old crystal, the little space dedicated to the dads – the first pic of my husband and our son, and a pic of each of our dads who have now passed, then there’s the square for our son’s christening … it’s got some sentimental stuff on it!
5. How often do you change the “look” of your shelves?
Hardly ever. I try to declutter it and dust it once in a while but that’s about it.
I love how you’ve used your shelves to celebrate all the people most special to you, Aroha.
It’s Your Turn!
If you have a set of Ikea shelves (or another brand) in your home – why not join in the fun? I’d love to feature yours in an upcoming blog post! All you have to do is snap some pics and answer the same five questions as Aroha has above, and email them to me at [email protected]. Oh – and you don’t have to be a blogger to join in!
What is the most sentimental item that you display in your home? Is it a photo, grandmother’s crystal, or … ?

That baby pic is making me clucky!! I did exactly the same with my large expedit. Those two rows of baskets can hide a remarkable amount of toys and other random detritus.
