Shelf Style: Vanessa from Style and Shenanigans

Janet Camilleri · 17/04/2015 ·

Our special guest for this week’s edition of Shelf Style, is Vanessa from Melbourne – the blogger behind Style and Shenanigans.

Ikea Shelf Style with Style and Shenanigans

As a mother of three boys, it’s easy to see where she got the “Shenanigans” part of her blog name from! Vanessa also shares style secrets on her blog, in particular, how to inject more colour into your wardrobe, your home – and life in general. She has a lovely, cheery, upbeat take on the world.

So I guess it’s no surprise then to see that her Ikea shelves feature in a colour scheme of red, white and blue!

Style and Shenanigans Ikea Expedit shelves - Copy

1. What room are your shelves in?

My eldest son’s bedroom (he’s 8).

2. How long have you had them?

About 18 months.

3. What do you store in the drawers/cupboards?

Games, books, puzzles and toys.

4. What is your favourite decorator item on your shelves and why?

I love the telescope which used to sit on top (sadly, it’s broken now!).

5. How often do you change the “look” of your shelves?

It hasn’t changed much since but it could do with a major tidy up – and it doesn’t often look as nicely styled as this!

Thanks Vanessa, I appreciate you (and Kirsty from My Home Truths last week) taking the time to share your Shelf Style with us – even though you are both currently exploring the good ol’ US of A! Maybe it’s a sign … participate in “Shelf Style” here on Middle Aged Mama and you too could be jetting off an overseas holiday?!

It’s Your Turn!

250x250xshelf-style-300x300.jpg.pagespeed.ic.eIZHpJ-q6oIf you have a set of Ikea shelves (or another brand) in your home – why not join in the fun? I’d love to feature yours in an upcoming blog post! All you have to do is snap some pics and answer the same five questions as Vanessa has above, and email them to me at [email protected]. Oh – and you don’t have to be a blogger to join in!

The iconic cube shelves come in a variety of sizes – is there a spot in your home that needs a mini version like Vanessa’s – and if so, where?!

Don’t forget to enter our great comp: you could Win a Smile Brilliant teeth whitening kit (value nearly $200 AUD) – HURRY closes Monday 20 April 2015!

This looks great. I love the cute little broken telescope. I just finally got around to cleaning my shelving unit in the lounge room. What a good feeling.
I just keep wishing it to be white instead of black, but the genie in my house is on strike.

I keep hearing good things about Annie Sloan chalk paint – maybe you could be the genie to transform your shelves?!

Love Vanessa’s style. I was at Ikea last night eyeing off these shelves for my eldest daughter’s room. We have some from office works and they are working a treat for my two youngest girls.

How on earth did you resist? I swear Ikea puts a spell on me whenever I go there!
