It probably comes as no surprise when I tell you that I have been wondering: should I get another cat?
I have mixed feelings about it, and so many thoughts have been running through my head that it’s an even crazier place than normal!
This is the conversation going on inside my mind …
Should I Get Another Cat?
Fleur’s latest toy is this tunnel, she loves to run through it at great speed!
Miss Fleur is such a cutie patootie. I just love her to bits!
BUT. I really miss having a cat that likes to be picked up and cuddled 🙁 . Oh no, now I feel disloyal to Miss Fleur! Fleur is an awesome cat in so many ways and we love her dearly BUT she really doesn’t like to be picked up – although she’s getting better, and tolerates it because she knows how much I love it.
She’s not really a lap cat either. Our last cat, Misty used to love that. You know what else Misty used to do? She used to suckle on my ear! Hubster thought it was gross but I thought it was so cute, and I loved how it tickled. I really did feel like her mummy. Oh and that’s right, Misty had the LOUDEST purr. Poor Fleur Bee has such a quiet little purr you can’t actually hear it unless you have your ear to her fur – and then she usually stops – but at least you can feel it when you’re patting her.
Maybe another cat would stop her from chewing everything cardboard in the house?!
The hubster (he’s such a softie!) worries that Miss Fleur is lonely and bored, being an inside cat. He thinks she needs a playmate. I’m here pretty much all the time, as I work from home, but I can see what he means. Also, if I am away for any length of time, poor Fleur frets and misses me, so it would probably be better for her if she had a furry friend. After all, she was fostered in a household with 4 other cats for her first year, so she would probably adjust fairly quickly.
Here she looks like she’s saying: PWEEZ MUMMY, can I has a furr-iend?!
Although I do dread the thought of the whole adjustment period. Introducing two cats is never easy, and the inevitable hissing and hackles raised can be quite upsetting. And what if they don’t like each other? What if the other cat bullies Fleur, or the other way round? What if one of them develops anxiety issues? If we do get another cat, would it be a crushing blow to Miss Fleur’s self-esteem? Will she think things like “Wasn’t I good enough for you?”?!
I suspect it could really put my Princess-Diva-Puss-Kitty’s delicate little nose out of joint!
People will think I really AM a crazy cat lady, if I get another moggy. Humph. What do I care. I’m a crazy cat lady and proud of it – and even have the badge on my blog to prove it (see bottom right)!
Is there room in my heart for another cat? I guess it would be just like when you have another baby – it’s not like you have to divide your love, rather, it just multiplies and expands 🙂 .
It would have to be a cat that was used to being indoors only, or they wouldn’t settle well here. Then there’s the litter tray duties that come with having two cats – twice as much poop to scoop! Oh joy – I can hardly wait!

Of course we would only consider another rescue kitty, and the cats on the various sites I follow are all so cute. I wish I could take them ALL home. And what if Miss Fleur really IS lonely?
And in my darker moments I think, what if Miss Fleur does have the heart condition that runs in her family, and dies at a young age … would having another cat somehow make that more bearable?

Sounds like it’s almost settled! You should get another cat! From my experience, you always deal with extra members in your household and it just increases the love factor!

Definitely get another cat! Just make sure it’s a cuddle-able cat! Nothing better than cuddling a pet!

Being owned by two cats, you know what I would say! The introductory period is a bit crazy but doable if you’ve got the patience for it. Mine took about 10 days of hardly any sleep. I’m fortunate both of mine are cuddly cats but only on their terms, of course!

We bought a second cat around 7 months ago. (Gary.) We are SO in love with him! He is six years old and he is a squishy mister who is very diplomatic about sharing bed spaces. We can’t imagine life without him and like you, he was the cat we were looking for. Don’t hesitate! Go find the pud of your dreams, today!

Definitely! I adopted sisters together almost 15 years ago. They couldn’t be more different but they love each other. I’ve adopted cats at different times too, and they’ve always managed. And I don’t think two qualifies as “crazy”!

I’m all for getting another cat! I’m a crazy cat lady too, love my cat. Hubby wouldn’t let me get another one so I got the puppy that looks like a teddy bear and acts like a cat – next best thing! Hehe.

Such a hard decision. I’d love another cat, but our AJ, would not be pleased. He’s 12 and set in his ways and as much as I love him and he’s a good cat, he’s not a lap cat and hates being picked up. I long for cuddles on the couch and smooches in the kitchen, like my cats used to when I was a kid.
You’re right, it’s not such a good idea when you have an older cat, set in their ways. Fleur is only 2 1/2 and has lived in a housefull of cats before, so I think she would quickly adapt.
I love the whirlwind that is your brain lol. Sounds like a new furrr-iend is on the cards!

I’ve wondered about the idea of a cat if I buy a house (and sell my apartment of course). But I’m not sure. With no kids I’d get overly attached and be a bit pathetic I think… Plus then I’d be sad if / when something happens to it.
Do it Deb. In fact, get two. You’ll never regret it. Besides what’s that old chestnut – better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all …

It sounds to me like you’ve already decided. Sure the getting to know you phase might be a bit tricky to start with but worth it in the end and just think… Kitty cuddles!

We were like you. Sasha is beautiful as she is is not a cuddler! You can do it just pick a super easy going personality and introduce them very slowly. We took three weeks to introduce ours. It paid off because they play hide and seek in the mornings and sleep on the bed together during the day. We took Piper on a trial but thankfully it worked.

If I were you I’d get a kitten, not an adult cat. I’ve found adopting adult cats can be problematic as they are already very territorial and it takes a lot of work to get them all used to each other and settled.
Hmm good idea. And come to think of it, all the cuddly cats I’ve had, I’ve owned since they were small …
If you want a cuddle cat you have to get a ragdoll. They’re the most beautiful fluffballs in the world, and best of all they LOVE cuddles. They basically melt when you pick them up, and they’re almost like puppies in how much they’ll love you.
I’ve heard that about ragdolls before – sounds like a lovely breed!
