There are some sights that that are even more amazing when you see them in person.
The leaning tower of Pisa is one such sight. Nothing could prepare me for the impact of actually seeing it for myself – and it really does lean! We were fortunate to be able to climb up to the top of the tower, as for several years it was closed to the public to allow engineering works to consolidate the foundations.
It reminded me of a fancy wedding cake 🙂 … almost good enough to eat.
We stayed in a quaint little hotel, about 200 metres walk from the tower itself which meant we got to go for a stroll and enjoy the changing vista of morning, noon and night.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa
Our Hotel
There is one vivid memory from our time in Pisa which I don’t have a photo of … they drive on the right hand side of the road in Italy, which can take some getting used to even when you are a pedestrian. As a result I nearly got skittled by a bicycle when I went to cross a quiet street (just not quiet enough!) – thankfully the hubster had his wits about him and pulled me out of harm’s way! It’s drilled into us from infancy to “look to the right, look to the left, and look to the right again” before crossing a road – in fact I’m sure I remember singing a song about it. Trouble is, the reverse is true in many foreign countries – Italy included!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my snapshots from Pisa. I’m feeling a little jealous as just this week Miss 18 booked her flights – she’s visiting the UK and Italy with her boyfriend and his family in March! Although if she has to go gadding about the world, I’m just relieved she is doing it in good company 😉 .
Meanwhile, the hubster and I are starting to think about our next big trip, which just might be to the USA and/or Canada …
