Still Got that Honeymoon Feeling …

Janet Camilleri · 04/05/2017 ·

Even though this week we are celebrating 27 years of marriage, we’ve still got that honeymoon feeling 😉 .

Not all the time of course – every marriage goes through highs and lows – but the love is here to stay.

Some years back, I mentioned to some colleagues at work that we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and they were astonished. Apparently not many couples are as loved up as we are, after so many years together! As hubby and I both worked for the same organisation, they knew both of us and had seen for themselves that we still had that honeymoon feeling.

Remember that Honeymoon Feeling?!

We spent our original honeymoon on South Molle Island, in the Whitsundays. I’ve heard that these days, it’s more of a backpacker resort than a romantic destination (and sadly, it was smashed by Cyclone Debbie in March).

After a week on South Molle Island, we spent a few days in Mackay visiting some of the hubster’s relatives.

It was my first plane trip; first day as a married woman; and first real holiday. So many firsts!

The weather was overcast but we still got sunburnt … mine was so bad I couldn’t bear to wear a bra, or even be touched, for a couple of days! Not very romantic LOL

There are lots of ups and downs in married life … as I discovered at this park in Mackay!

Although we took a lot of photos (for those pre-digital days), there were surprisingly few photos that were even worth scanning and sharing …  I guess I wasn’t the photo addict I am today!

Where did you go for your honeymoon? And do you remember that honeymoon feeling?!

Happy Anniversary Janet & hubby.! 🙂
We spent our honeymoon at Maleny/Montville in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Funds were limited, so we wanted to go somewhere nice that was also close to home. We’ve been together 27 years too, although we haven’t been married all that time. Throughout the inevitable ups and downs, our love is still there too xox

Happy anniversary. Our wedding anniversary is on Sunday – we’ve been together 28 years, but married for 23. Our honeymoon was a few days up on the Gold Coast as we were saving to spend 2 months in England/Europe the following year. I still remember the day trip to Fraser Island from there. #TeamLovinLife

Those photos on South Molle Island bring back memories of my trip to South Molle Island after I finished uni. I think I even had the same (or otherwise a very similar) t shirt as the one in your photo!

Congratulations Janet! 27 years is a wonderful achievement in marriage and yes we do need to keep that honeymoon feeling alive. We just celebrated 19 years (second time arounders) and went on a cruise to have some quality time together. I loved looking at your memories you look so happy and excited!

Happy Anniversary to you both! We’ve been to South Molle Island – back in the early 80’s. We honeymooned on Norfolk Island back in 1985. How time flies! #TeamLovinLife

I’ve had a few people say that they’re surprised Ben & I are still married after things we’ve been though and I just find it a sad comment on their relationship!!

We didn’t really do a traditional honeymoon but did take a few days away but the place I booked was awful!!

I hope you’ve been on a lovely holiday or two since to make up for it!

We still love being ‘in love’ and being ‘loved’ by each other…after 46 years of marriage. I think it is because, as much as we could, we have put our relationship high on the agenda in our family. Nurturing it as closely as we did even when raising children and going through some pretty awful health and financial issues, means we are still together and happily so.
Our honeymoon, was spent driving slowly from Sydney where we wed up the North Coast of NSW, staying extra days in Ballina …and then across the country to our new home on a property near Narrabri…where we could not get in due to recent flooding. We then spent the next few days with kind parents of kids where B used to teach. Funny honeymoon but very memorable.

Oh my gosh you look so young in those pictures! So young! And I love that you’re still ‘loved up’ after all of this time.

We have our moments Deb, but mostly still pretty loved up!

Happy anniversary! And I agree with you about the photos – I have about a dozen (max) from our honeymoon and probably on half of them would be worth sharing. It’s lovely to be one of those couples with decades of marriage under our belts isn’t it? To have someone who has known us for so long and still loves us is such a blessing.

I’m just sad there aren’t more of us around Leanne!

Happy Anniversary! We didn’t get married so no honeymoon but we too work hard at giving our relationship priority. A friend said at her 60 year anniversary it was a celebration of 60 years of negotiations and I think she had that right.

Yes, negotiation and compromise is the name of the game!
