50 Things for the Festival of 50!

Janet Camilleri · 23/01/2017 ·

My birthday has been and gone, and our special holiday to Bali might be over – but the party is only just getting started!

the festival of 50

This year I want to try to do 50 special things in honour of my 50th birthday.

Such a milestone birthday deserves a year long celebration, don’t you agree?!

I’m calling it the Festival of 50, and here’s what I’m hoping to do, see, try and experience in 2017.

Adventures

1 – Head overseas for a holiday (I can already tick this one!).

2 – Go on a scenic helicopter ride.

3 – Try glamping.

4 – Go on an underwater experience (yup, did this in Bali too 😉 – blog post to come!)

Bali seawalk

5 – See David Strassman and Ted E Bare live (tickets booked for May).

6 – Go to the theatre at least once.

7 – Ride in a limo.

8 – Go to the planetarium (haven’t been since I was a kid!).

9 – Do at least one bloggy junket (like this one last year, with Princess Cruises).

welcome aboard

10 – Feed/Swim with dolphins.

11 – Ride a jetski.

12 – Try indoor skydiving.

13 – Ride a segway.

14 – Stay at a five star hotel.

Health, Beauty & Fitness

15 – Book in for my free mammogram (oh joy).

16 – Participate in the Rotary Bowel Scan.

17 – Have the annoying (but harmless) skin tags around my shoulders and bra line removed.

18 – Have laser treatment to get rid of the broken capillaries on my nose and chin.

19 – Enquire about cosmetic treatment (Botox? Collagen?) for the big wrinkle between my eyes (I don’t have to get it, just enquire about it!).

20 – Try aquarobics.

21 – See a podiatrist (seeing as the corn removal pads didn’t work).

22 – Do a beginner’s yoga class.

23 – Try golf.

24 – Have a rose petal bath.

25 – Try a flotation tank.

26 – Try belly dancing (I’ve already got the belly, may as well put it to good use!).

27 – Have my legs waxed (as I never have before).

Personal

28 – Go to a day spa.

29 – Try some new foods.

Kue Wajik balinese dessert

30 – Have a glamour photo shoot.

31 – Keep a gratitude jar.

32 – Read 50 books.

33 – Successfully grow zucchini.

34 – Donate to a Christmas hamper.

35 – Wear a bikini at the beach.

36 – Go to the Eumundi markets on the Sunshine Coast (I’ve never been).

37 – Do a basic photography course or class.

38 – Have my picture taken with somebody famous.

39 – Be an extra in a TV show / movie.

40 – Knit a scarf.

41 – Win a competition.

42 – Drink juice from a fresh coconut!

43 – Organise a family portrait.

44 – Apply to go on a TV quiz or reality show.

45 – Get a house cleaner.

46 – Splash out on a new bedroom suite (after 27 years, it’s time …).

Professional

47 – Expand my business as an SEO copywriter, by signing up at least five new regular clients (ten would be better)!

48 – Go on a conference.

bloggy buddies

49 – Refresh my business plan.

50 – Create a product for my blog (eg an e-book).

It’s a bold plan, don’t you think?

Will I complete all of them? I doubt it, but that’s okay. I figure it’s better to have something to aim for, than nothing at all.

If you’d like to follow along, make sure you sign up for my weekly updates right here– or look for the “Subscribe Now” towards the bottom right of this web page. And I’ll also be posting on the Middle Aged Mama Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, using the hashtag: #festivalof50.

Is anybody else celebrating a “Festival of 50” (or another milestone birthday) this year?!

Good on youJanet! Go for it! Definitely see the podiatrist – they have tools that can remove corns in a jiffy, you’ll love it! Let me know how leg wax goes, I’ve never had one either!

Wow, what an impressive list! I’m happy to do a few of these with you. Theatre, indoor skydiving, ride a Segway, yoga, golf, belly dancing, aquaarobics, photography course, fam photo. All sound great 🙂

Oh I meant to go to the planetarium too – I doubt I’ve been since a school trip.

And skin tags – I know they don’t have to be removed but they’ve been annoying me recently. Only I’m doctor’d out so who know when I’ll do it. I’m also off to a podiatrist tomorrow (part of the being doctor’d out).

Are you looking at the Artful Business Conference this year? It’s in Brisbane in May. I want to go but currently don’t have the cash to book. With Problogger looking like Melbs a Brisbane conference is much more up my alley (and budget).

I’ve never heard of it Vanessa! I saw a Copywriting Conference in Sydney in April, it’d costalotta to make it happen but I’d love to go … don’t know if I’ll be doing PBEvent this year.
