Whatever Happened to: Coffee Scrolls

Janet Camilleri · 02/08/2013 ·

I have a craving.

A craving for Coffee Scrolls. Does anybody else remember these biscuits with the blob of pink icing on top?

They tasted of cinnamon and were dotted with raisins. I used to eat them by nibbling all around the edges, saving the icing in the middle til last!

grocery shopping

I don’t normally do our family grocery shopping, but last time I went I searched high and low for Coffee Scroll yumminess. Nothing even came close.

I must have been living under a rock (or not doing the grocery shopping) because apparently it’s been quite a few years since they were taken off the market.

According to the Arnott’s Facebook page, I’m not the only one who has been missing them, but sadly, sales dropped which meant it wasn’t worth their while to produce them anymore.

Hooray for the age of the internet though because LOOK WHAT I FOUND!

Somebody has gone to the trouble to create and share their version of the famous Coffee Scroll – so pop on over to the Sweet Perfection Cakes blog to get the recipe. I’ve printed it out and will be making it very soon!

Do you have a favourite biscuit or food that is no longer produced?!

I have a craving now! I loved those biscuits too. Thanks for the tip off for the recipe!

I can’t wait to make some! Can’t believe they got taken off the market when there are so many other cr@ppy bikkies that are still on supermarket shelves.

I know the ones you’re talking about. Go the homemade variety, it looks great! For me, it’s the Iced Vovo. Mmmm biscuit perfection.

      Nom nom nom …

Yep I like them too. And once again I nibble away until only the centre jam strip is left 😉

That’s funny. I wouldn’t have missed them as I don’t even know what they are! Glad you found a recipe though 🙂

Can’t say I was a fan of those, but agree with Melissa – the iced vovo is my favourite. I also don’t mind the little fruit pillow biscuits but they don’t taste like they used to.

Mmmm iced vovos and spicy fruit rolls 🙂

Thanks for the linkage, Janet 🙂 Iknew there must be others out there mourning the loss of these biscuits. I hope you enjoyed your Coffee Scrolls!

I’ve been playing around with modified Iced Vovos (more coconutty marshmallowy icing around the thickened jam strip to suit my tastes), and I have a tried and true, rocking home-baked version of the Monte Carlo. I want to be ready in case Arnotts decide to “discontinue” these as well!

    Thanks again!

    Eva

I’m so pleased you shared your recipe, because there is nothing else quite like our beloved coffee scrolls, is there?!

    I loved them!!
Hadn’t noticed they were gone either – but then I try to avoid the bikkie aisle as much as possible!

As long as the TimTams don’t disappear – that would not be good for me! So glad you were able to find your faces elsewhere 🙂 Mel x

Maybe I’m weird but I’m not that fussed on Tim Tams. Chocolate yes, Tim Tams, no.

Hi there, You posted right next to me over at Maxabella last friday so I thought I’d pop by my neighbour and say hi.
I totally hear you about the coffee scrolls. I know exactly the biscuits you are coveting, and i used to bite around the edges too, then bit off the biscuit under the icing and lastly the best bit!
I didn’t even realise they were gone either…but now i’m hungry.
    xx

Thanks for dropping by Olivia! I meant to do lots of quality blog reading over the weekend but only visited a few from the link. The weather was so beautiful I ended up doing a heap of gardening instead! But I’m glad to meet you now 🙂

I don’t know the coffee scroll, but I really wish I did! I hate it when faves are yanked off the market without consultation!! I still mourn the loss of Kraft 0% fat Asian salad dressing five years later. It was my go-to and then it up and went… x

Yes! I remember them…but was totally oblivious to the fact they had stopped being produced! I think Inused to eat them in the same way 🙂

I’m so devastated they don’t make them anymore, boo hoo … still haven’t gotten around to making any either!

I’m starting to wish that ALL biscuits and cakes would go out of production so I wouldn’t have any temptation. Sigh. Not really. I just wish I could eat them without having any issues. They sound really yummy.

I loved these biscuits!! Have been trying to explain these to friends for a long time now and no one knows what I am talking about so I am glad to see others do. Will have to try the recipe, thanks for sharing.

Wow – I was just talking to my workmates on how much we all loved Cinnamon Scroll biscuits and used to give them to our kids as treats. Thought I would google what happened to them and found your blog. Thanks for the recipe – everybody in my office now has a copy and we are all going to try it out. Thank you

I know! I think Arnotts made a big mistake when they stopped making them …

OMG! I loved these bickies too. I had no idea they disappeared form existence! Although they, like other biscuits, probably got smaller and smaller until they disappeared altogether.

    • Janet Camilleri says

      16/02/2016 at 9:07 pm

I can’t believe they don’t make them anymore, it seems everybody misses them! Perhaps Arnotts should do a limited edition run to see if they could make a comeback?!

A late addition to this comments section…

I’ve found something else which reminds me of the coffee scrolls. It’s going to sound weird..
Weet-Bix GO Breakfast Biscuits “Cinnamon and Raisins” or something like that.

As to be expected, it’s purely the cinnamon and raisin taste is what reminds me of the fabulous coffee scrolls. I have written to Arnott’s to ask them if they will bring them back. But, I’ve got a feeling it’ll be a big no from them.

Oooh thanks for the tip!!! You know lately I’ve been struggling to find Arnott’s Spicy Fruit Rolls in store – hope that’s not the next one to go 🙁
