What’s All the Fuss About Eyelash Extensions?

Janet Camilleri · 08/02/2016 ·

I Must Confess: I have never really understood all the fuss about eyelash extensions.

what's all the fuss about eyelash extensions

I’m a bit of a minimalist when it comes to makeup and beauty. Sure, I like to look good but I don’t have oodles of time and money to spend solely on my appearance.

So when I first heard about eyelash extensions, I didn’t really think they would be for me. I do wear mascara sometimes when going out, but have never bothered with false eyelashes or a lash curler or anything like that.

Never say never! One of my sisters qualified as an eyelash technician a couple of years ago and has set up her home studio with all the lash tech essentials – and she convinced me to try out this popular beauty trend …

Eyelash Extensions: Before and After

What I Loved About My Eyelash Extensions

  • They look completely natural, and straight away Miss 19, my sister and others commented on how they made me look younger.
  • The hubster noticed – and loved! – my luscious new lashes as soon as he walked in the door after work.
  • When I had to attend a couple of special events in the summer heat, I didn’t have to worry about my mascara melting and leaving black splodges on my face.
  • The eyelash extensions really drew attention to my eyes.

Care and Maintenance of Eyelash Extensions

Obviously, it’s best to be makeup-free when you are having eyelash extensions done. The entire process took about an hour to an hour and a half, time which I spent relaxing on a beautician’s table with my eyes closed (it’s a hard life, but somebody’s got to do it!).

Afterwards, it’s best not to get your lashes wet for the first 12 hours. Other than that, I could wash and cleanse as normal – all I had to remember was to gently blot my eyes and lashes dry, rather than rubbing them. I also found that my long lashes needed a gentle comb to groom them after bathing or sleeping.

Some people aren’t as lucky as me, and develop eye irritation after getting their lash extensions – a condition known as blepharitis. If this happens to you, your local optometrist should be able to help.

I’m told my eyelash extensions should last at least a couple of weeks, so far so good! While not something I would do every month, I will definitely be going back if I have any special occasions coming up where I want to impress 😉 .

Have you ever had eyelash extensions – or are you interested in giving them a try?!

I had them for about 8 months and loved them. Eventually I stopped getting refills and for about 6 months I had NO eyelashes because my real ones fell out! They are excellent for when you’re on holidays and don’t want to bother with makeup. Yours look lovely 🙂

Thanks – I got them done as I knew I was going away on a PR trip and wanted to look a bit spesh 😉 . But I really hope I don’t lose my own lashes too when they fall otu!

It does feel a bit weird having to brush them because otherwise they get a bit clumpy and tangled!

I adore eyelash extensions but my real lashes also suffered when I had them constantly so we had to part company.

Hmm maybe it’s just as well I keep them as an occasional treat 🙂

I’ve never considered or tried false eyelashes but they look so good on you Janet. I hope they don’t damage your natural lashes x

Will just have to wait and see. Miss 19 wears false eyelashes a lot, I don’t know how she does it!

I love them! I’ve not tried them but my friends who have, have had the same problem with their real ones falling out. I really want to try them but I am really scared of ending up with no eyelashes. Will look forward to seeing how yours go.

Your lashes look gorgeous! I’ve never had lash extensions. I have long natural eyelashes so I have never really needed to get them done.

They do look really good on you. I’ve had my eyelashes tinted before but not the extensions. Supposedly chemo makes them fall out, but so far mine are intact. I’d probably consider having them done for a special occasion.

I rarely wear makeup and so I reckon eyelash extensions are probably not for me. I’ve never worn them but I do have and have used a mascara thingy that adds little fibres to your eyelashes that extends them naturally and then you just wash off with water. I think that’s as far as I’ll go. 🙂 I wish I had my husband or sons eyelashes, what’s with men getting the lovely long lashes?
