If you already receive my weekly enews (*Gasp* You’re not? Quick, sign up here – promise I’ll wait!), you will already have some idea of the latest “goings on” in the Middle Aged Mama household.
When you hear all of what’s happening here, it will probably make your head spin. Mine sure is!
So hear’s a quick update.
What’s Happening Here …
There’s good and bad, and just plain stuff – and lots of it!
For example, I’m a finalist in the Best Startup Business category at this year’s Redlands Business and Retail Awards. Yay!
But at the same time that’s meant a fair bit of work to both lodge the entry, and prepare for the interview with the judging panel (which was earlier this week). The winner will be announced at a Gala Awards night on 5th August – can’t wait to get frocked up, we had a great time at the awards last year, dancing the night away – yes, even the hubster!
After a sluggish start to the year, business has really picked up which is GREAT (even had some moments where I thought about getting a regular j-o-b, perish the thought) – but means I’m now super busy.
What’s Happening Healthwise
In the midst of all that, both hubster and I are having some health issues so both of us are back and forth to doctors, specialists and the like.
I’ve been struggling with swimmer’s ear for about a month now, sadly I can’t go to aqua aerobics til it clears up. Even had my ear suctioned last week (ouch!).
On the upside, it forced me to visit the doctor and do something about my high blood pressure (which was picked up a year ago but I’ve been playing ostrich, hoping it would go away).
Turns out I suffer from moderate to severe sleep apnea, which most likely means I will need a machine to help me breathe at night. When I grumbled about it not being very sexy, my doctor reminded me that stopping breathing regularly in bed is not particularly sexy either! Love her sense of humour 😉 .
So far I’ve had blood tests, a sleep study, heart ultrasound, and worn a holter monitor for 24 hours and will have a stress test next week.
Meanwhile the hubster has some worrying symptoms, tingling and numbness in his right hand, arm, leg and side of his face. At first he thought it was an after-effect of having shingles twice last year but it seems not. Thankfully, stroke or TIA has been ruled out, but he has an MRI scheduled for next week. We have an idea of what it could be but will just have to wait and see …
What’s Happening with the Kids
Mr 23 has started a second part time job, in addition to full time uni and working at Red Rooster. It’s much more in keeping with his studies (a Bachelor of Commerce), so he is really keen to be progressing in his career.
He has also grown up overnight after adopting a cat – yes, our own Seth is back – that story deserves a whole blog post of its own! However we have sorted some things out and everybody (cats, boy and parents) is much happier.
Miss 20 moved home for all of 2 weeks (we thought it would be longer) before renting an apartment near the city. She is further away now so we don’t get to see her quite so much, but keep in regular touch via phone, text and email.
What else has been happening?!
Whew, you would think that’s enough but nooooo …
The hubster’s parents have downsized, and are now settled into their new home. Hubster was very involved in helping them with selling furniture, and moving house, like the good boy he is. However his parents live in Toowoomba which is two hours’ drive from us, so it has been a major undertaking.
Plus, hubster’s team at work is way understaffed, so he has lots of challenges there.
On the upside, it looks like our battles with Council, and the disaster which has been our backyard for about the last three years (which I last mentioned in this post 18 long months ago), is FINALLY about to be sorted. We have fill booked to come in next week – fingers crossed it doesn’t rain!
Anyways! It’s the hubster’s birthday in July so I’m trying to talk him into a week away … however he is of the opinion that a break won’t solve anything, and it’s better to just keep plugging away 🙁 . I can see where he’s coming from, but …
Can you see why I think we need a holiday, now I’ve filled you in on what’s happening here?!
Kez @ Awesomely Unprepared says
Oh yes! Have a holiday!!!!!! xxx

Holiday! STAT! Doctors visits get very mentally tiring, I find. It is good that you’re getting all the investigations and so on done though 🙂

Sometimes a “staycation” close by is refreshing and just what the doctor ordered – less stress about going away and all. Can’t wait to hear about Seth!! <3

Hope you both feel better soon. Maybe Hubby just has a pinched nerve. Not that I’m a medical practitioner but it sounds a bit like it. I blame everything on pinched nerves.

Life gets complicated with ageing parents and health issues. Or so it seems to me!
