What’s in my Handbag?

Janet Camilleri · 28/02/2020 · 2 Comments

Does anybody else remember those old magazine ads, where celebrities showed what they kept in their Glomesh handbags?

I had a grey Glomesh clutch which I took to my school formal; and a gold mesh wallet when I was about 20.

These days? Well, my handbag’s not Glomesh (though I heard it’s making a comeback), but here’s what you’ll find inside …

whats in my handbag

The Bag

But first … the bag.

I’ve never been one to have multiple handbags on the go, maybe I’m lazy but I use the same one everyday except for the rare special occasion.

My current daily handbag is this tan number from Big W. With my kids grown, and now that I work from home, I have no need for a big tote and am enjoying this lightweight option. I also like that it’s soft and a bit slouchy, and how cute is the fringed tassel?

A Sneak Peek Inside

Phone – I currently have an iPhone 6s though I’ve been desperate to upgrade it ever since I saw the amazing photos Miss 23 could take on her iPhone X (I think she’s already upgraded to an 11).

Because I’m clumsy I have a protective case on it, but if you look closely, you’ll see there’s a crack on the screen. I dropped it less than a week after paying $150 to get it fixed and as it’s still usable, this is my punishment for not being more careful (#martyr).

Lipsticks – They’re not my favourites, but they’re great for touch ups/moisturising on the go. One is a colourless gloss, the other a pretty apricot.

Dangly Earrings – I’m going through a bit of an earring stage it must be said (a few years ago it was pendants); Miss 23 gave me these ones for my birthday. Sometimes if they’re irritating my ears I’ll take them out and slip them into my handbag.

Afro Comb – It might be 30 years since I last had a perm, but I still use an afro comb. It seems to work better with my fine hair than a brush, which flattens it (yuk!).

Hairclip and Bobby Pin – For hair emergencies. I’m surprised there’s not a hair elastic in there as well!

Reading Glasses – Just one of my 342 pairs. And every time I look for them I can never find them … LOL. The trials of needing reading glasses!

Shopping List – I did the grocery shopping several days ago and still haven’t thrown out the list I took with me.

Envirofriendly Bag – This was a gift from Miss 23 and is incredibly handy in this day of no free/single use plastic bags!

Purse – And another gift from my girl. What a sweetie (plus she’s got great taste)!

Sunglasses – Usually I buy el cheapos. Again, it’s a form of punishment – I had a really cool pair of Bolles (expensive!) years ago and managed to lose them. Although I’m not sure technically if that’s correct because I know what happened and where they ended up. I was in the car with my sunnies on my lap, and they must have fallen onto the ground when I got out.

This summer, I splashed out on a pair from Sussan, on sale for $20, so I feel a bit special whenever I wear them 😉 .

Biro – I always like to have a pen on hand. This is one of the promotional ones I got for my business a few years ago; it still has the old logo on it. Have to say they are the nicest pens to use, luckily I still have a handful hanging around.

biro and lipsticks

Ibuprofen – My hormonal headaches don’t seem to respond to paracetamol, so I always keep ibuprofen on me because I’ve learned from experience to take them as soon as I notice the signs otherwise they can be very debilitating.

Business Cards – Featuring current logo – I’m almost out, so need to order some more soon!

And there you have it, a stocktake of my handbag.

What would I find in your handbag – and did you have a Glomesh bag back in the day?!
