I couldn’t find my usual hair colour last time I went shopping, so I chose a different one and this was the result:
I’ll be honest – I’m not loving it.
While the colour itself is fine, it’s a bit dark on me. I think it screams fake and is obviously from a box – whereas my usual golden brown / caramel looks very natural.
It’s not the end of the world and I’m told it will fade, but it got me thinking: real or fake?!
Jewellery
I’ve got to a point where I’m not sure what all the fuss is about “real” jewellery.
Sure, if money was no object or I received jewellery as a gift, I would be very happy to accept the real thing – diamonds, gold, pearls.
Otherwise though …
Take my wedding rings for example. Even though I had them resized a few years ago, I rarely wear them anymore. As a newlywed, dainty rings suited me; now, not so much (quite apart from the fact I now prefer yellow over white gold!). Plus my taste/fashion has changed.
So I have two fake sets that I wear instead.
My favourite comes from Lovisa and cost all of $40. Trouble is, the metal finish is wearing off so it’s pretty obvious they’re fake. If only I could find the same thing in sterling silver instead. The “diamond” is a bit big and cloudy to look real also.
So most of the time I wear a set from a “real” jeweller: sterling silver, set with cubic zirconia. I can’t remember how much we paid, but pretty sure it’d have been less than $100.
Does it bother me that they’re fake? Not really (or I wouldn’t be revealing all here on my blog!).
The only time it mattered was when I went a business function and got talking with a fellow who just happened to be … a diamond merchant! I hid my hands after that ๐ .
HOWEVER, having said that, our 30th wedding anniversary is coming up later this year, maybe I should drop some hints to the husbear?!
Leather and Fur
I’ve had a real leather handbag a couple of times, thinking that it would last better than the fake. Nope. The same with leather shoes, so these days I am happy to stick to the fake option, which is more budget-friendly anyway.
Not that I’ve ever been in a position to own a “real” fur, but even if I was, I prefer fake. Who wants the headaches associated with worrying about and caring for such high cost items? Not me!
Designer Labels
I’ve never been one to care about labels or exclusive brands, and think most of them are a ripoff.
If I was to be given a pair of Christian Louboutin heels, a Louis Vuitton handbag, or a Burberry scarf, sure it’d be great and I’d be proud to own it but I just wouldn’t spend that money myself.
Another case of fake for the win!
Jam and Cream Donuts
Mmmm … jam and cream donuts remind me of tuckshop treats from my primary school days, and it has to be fake (or mock) cream.
So fake is okay with me, most of the time.
Except for one notable example: people.
Give me real, sincere, genuine, dinky di authentic people any day!
What about you? Real or fake?!
Liz says
Real for people, absolutely.
And I go real for leather and jewelry too.
But Im fine without designer label clothes.
Those tuckshop jam and cream donuts were awesome werent they?!!
Janet Camilleri says
Oh how I miss them Liz!!!! Very few bakeries do them with mock cream these days ๐
