Why Blogging is Good for You!

Janet Camilleri · 08/08/2014 ·

Just in case you needed it: today I’mย enabling your blog addiction providing a valuable community service, and sharing research that proves – blogging is good for you!
blogging is good for you

The Benefits of Reading

A year or two back, I stumbled across a UK study that demonstrated that losing yourself in a great read (like Middle Aged Mama, and many other great blogs) is the ultimate in relaxation. Researchers at the University of Sussex found that just six minutes ofย  blog reading can reduce your stress levels by more than two thirds.

Apparently, reading blogs calms frazzled nerves better and faster than other common stress-relievers, such as listening to music, going for a walk, or a cuppa.

Blogging is Good for You!

One of the things the hubster has noticed about my blogging habit, is that I often look through our photos to illustrate my posts. He has even commented that I’m lucky because I get to relive all our wonderful memories!

Turns out, he’s hit the nail on the head – he’s a smart one, that hubster of mine ๐Ÿ˜‰ . And here’s the proof: according to an article in Women’s Health magazine (August 2014), looking at favourite photos of friends and family boosts mood by 11%.

This is pretty impressive when you compare it to chocolate, a glass of wine, or once again, listening to music – which all scored only 1%!

The facts are clear: it doesn’t matter whether you’re reading or writing, blogging is good for you!

Have I helped you to justify your blogging habit – and will you be telling your significant other next time he complains of being a blog widower?!

Wow, I must be one of the least-stressed people on the planet! I do feel rather chilled as a general rule, so this must be why. Blogs and a cuppa, mummy’s little helpers ๐Ÿ˜‰ And I am hearing you on the blog widow side of things too. *gulps* Sorry honey…

I agree with your husband. I love sifting through all my old photos. Reading blogs does relax me too. I never buy magazines anymore. Don’t need to!

I very rarely buy magazines anymore either. But at least I can curl up on the couch with the hubster and read a magazine, he tends to feel unloved if I am at my computer or even if I’m sitting beside him using my tablet or iphone. Men!

I’m a bit of a blog reader too. On the other side there is the writing benefit. Years ago I wrote business plans, advertising briefs, proposals and loads more. Now my writing has turned into a a very casual chat style and I hate editing looking for typos and long rambling sentences. Blogging. Is a way of trying to stop my writing becoming too lazy.

My hubby knows better that to comment on my blogging obsession. He realized long ago that it was therapy for my soul! I also love to read a good book so get the best of both worlds.

I knew there was a justified scientific reason I’ve been getting into blogging recently. I just didn’t know exactly what it was! Now I do. Love it!
