Why do we love Kitten D’Amour?

Janet Camilleri · 14/01/2014 ·

Kitten D'Amour Carindale store

I’m in love with Kitten D’Amour.

For the uninitiated, there are three Kitten D’Amour boutiques currently in the Brisbane area – CBD, Chermside, and Carindale – as well as an online store. But to buy online I feel is to miss out on the whole Kitten D’Amour experience!

I can never resist a visit when I am shopping at Carindale – it truly is a mecca of girly delights.

The fashions are vintage inspired, with plenty of full skirts, froth and frills. You’ll find satin and tartan, cotton and tulle, pearls and feathers amongst the racks. There are day dresses, lingerie, shoes, jewellery, and cocktail gowns to choose from.

Love Kitten D'Amour shoes!

The store itself is decorated like a lavish olde worlde boudoir, complete with tasseled lampstands, luxurious wallpaper, gilded mirrors, and candelabra; and instead of the “doof doof” music so beloved by other clothing stores, here you will find swinging tunes from the 40’s and 50’s. Ah the romance!

Even the sales assistants look like they have stepped out of the glamour days of Hollywood, dressed in Kitten D’Amour designs (of course!) – with hair, makeup and shoes to match.

I even love Kitten D'Amour labels!
Rumour has it that the designs and dresses are created right here in the Redlands, at the workroom in Capalaba. According to the Kitten D’Amour Facebook page, stores will open in Sydney and Melbourne later this year.

The garments are not cheap – you’re looking at one to two hundred dollars or more – but hey, it doesn’t cost anything to look and it’s all just so PRETTY!

Are you in love with the Kitten D’Amour boutiques too?

Janet, I had previously never heard of them but now I know I’d like to visit them! Looks like my kind of footwear. I am so jealous that you are in Brisbane! (Despite it being a whopping 43 degrees in Melbourne today!!)

I’ve never heard of them either. Oh wait, I’m lying, I know Rachel at Redcliffe Style likes it too, but I’ve never been to a store or owned anything from there. I might need to look into this one day when I can afford to buy something to complete the experience! 🙂 x Aroha

Yes! I`m just getting into the whole vintage \ glamour vibe – it`s so flattering and chic! Love a visit to the Carindale store myself – although as you pointed out it ain`t cheap so I`m usually looking rather than buying. However you can feel how good the quality is so it`s to be expected I guess

I LOVE these stores, not quite in my price range right now, but I do love the prettiness of it. I hope to be ‘pretty’ one day, eg dress a bit more feminine! xx

I have never heard of them! And it probably wouldn’t be my cup of tea anyway. I don’t like looking at pretty things I’ll never be able to afford 😉

Wow Janet, some gorgeous stuff there!! My 17yo foster daughter would be in heaven! She loves all that frilly girly kind of stuff. I’m not giving her the web address though, I’m trying to teach her to save at the moment!

My own Miss 17 was SERIOUSLY tempted to spend some of her hard-earned cash but until she’s working fulltime it’s just not an option!

hi Janet, I was at Carindale with my 24yr old daughter yesterday, we really enjoyed browsing Kitten D’Amour, I am 49 this year, I love the glamour and classy fashion of this shop, in fact I bought a black satin/lace dress in there yesterday, it wasn’t cheap but I managed to get my daughter’s approval on how I fitted the dress, I am not slim, but small in stature and managed to fit a size that accommodated me>…lol am looking forward to wearing it.

My daughter loves this shop and has bought a lot of beautiful dresses there. I would really love to buy her one of the Kitten D’Amour lamps for her birthday. Can you help with that?
