10 Things I Miss When I’m Away

No matter how great a time I’m having when I’m away on holidays, I still get a little homesick.

These are the 10 things I miss when I’m away from home.

1. The hubster – Obviously, this is not a problem this time around as he is with me! But there have been times when I’ve travelled without him, and oh my goodness, I turn into a big sook.

2. The kids – Mr 21 and Miss 18 (even though Miss 18 doesn’t live with us anymore). Yes, they can be annoying and demanding at times, but I love them dearly and really miss them. I hope they are surviving okay without us!

3. My Kitty – It’s true, I really am a crazy cat lady. And I’m especially crazy about our kitty Fleur. If you don’t believe me, check out this post, and this one, and this one!

4. These Characters – I’ve shared before that I still take a stuffed toy to bed, Sophie the snuggly puppy. The hubster has a teddy called Brave Bear. (When they are pretending to be hip and cool as in the photo below, they even have rap names – Snuff Pup and B.Rave. I’m more than just a crazy cat lady; I’m crazy full stop!) Unfortunately they were just too big to fit in our suitcase this time.

5. My Own Bed – There is just something about my own bed …

6. My Own Shower – And my own shower. I know the pressure, how far to turn the tap, where everything is. Bliss!

7. Home Cooked Meals – I don’t know about you guys, but I get heartily sick of even the best restaurant fare after a week or so. I’m not a huge fan of takeaway, and I love my vegies! Fact is, I miss my own cooking!

8. Money Made Simple – My gifts are in writing, NOT maths. So trying to handle foreign currencies, exchange rates and the rest absolutely does my head in. Thank God for the hubster!

9. Familiar Faces – Although it’s nice to get away, after a while I really miss those familiar faces – family, friends, church folk. (Mind you, we’ve been on a couple of holidays where we unexpectedly bumped into quite a few! On our honeymoon, we were astounded to see at least two other couples we knew. When we were in Perth, we stayed in the same caravan park as a family we’d known for years. On our first cruise there was at least half a dozen familiar faces! It really is a small world – wonder who we’ll bump into this time?!)

10. You guys! Although there are still posts here on the blog, the reality is I scheduled them before I left. With only intermittent internet access, although I may see – and even respond – to your comments, it’s just not the same. I love the community here, chatting with the readers who stop by regularly, and meeting the new ones, just hearing your thoughts on the things I’ve blogged about. So I am looking forward to being home and back on the blog!
