A Sentence A Day – January 2019

Janet Camilleri · 05/02/2019 ·

Welcome to 2019 and fresh off the press, here is what January looked like in just a sentence a day!

sentence a day jan 2019

1 January – We saw in the New Year with a glass of bubbly out on our deck, watching the fireworks – since moving here we’ve discovered we have a great view of any fireworks at the local showgrounds, AND off Cleveland Point (which is what we saw on this night).

2 January – Oh my life is so exciting. I had to defrost and clean out the bar fridge that we’ve been using … in good news though, we shifted over the big fridge YAY! which is also frost free so no more iced up freezer!

3 January – Contemplating the future, as you do at the start of a new year.

4 January – Bought a new desk, bookshelf and wall unit from Facebook Marketplace for my office for $300. Clearly, Miss Fleur approves …

5 January – Hubby is sick with a bad cold (man flu anyone?!).

6 January – We both had a bit of cabin fever so checked out a few display homes.

7 January – My birthday! Unfortunately the rest of the family had to go back to work today after Christmas holidays, while I on the other hand indulged in a massage and float tank session. And we all went to my favourite Thai restaurant for dinner – no cooking yeah! I might have indulged in a cocktail – cocoa loco …

8 January – Back into blogging … wrote my first post of the year.

9 January – Visited my favourite hairdresser for a cut and colour, I had a half head of foils done in blonde and caramel.

10 January – Visited a friend (and her gorgeous little dog, Coco) for coffee and to try out her new swimming pool. Very nice!!!

11 January – I bought a warm fuzzy for Miss 22 and her man today while I was out shopping – a piggy bank to help with saving for the wedding (we are contributing some but are very proud of them for taking the initiative and saving as well).

12 January – Hubby and son began enclosing the downstairs patio with cat net – our new “kitty chiller”!

13 January – Had a lovely day visiting the in laws in Toowoomba and got home to a phone call – we’ve had an offer on the house!

14 January – Alas all good things must come to an end and it was back to work for me …

15 January – We’ve been collecting the mail for a neighbour who has been away – he stopped by for a chat and to collect it after dinner this evening.

16 January – I had a lovely surprise this morning. Working away at my computer when there was a tap at the door – it was my hubby (he’d come home sick from work so probably not so great for him, LOL).

17 January – Today we signed the contract to sell our house. It’s subject to sale so could take some time – fortunately our agents are still actively marketing our house in the hope of getting a better offer … apparently that’s how it’s done these days.

18 January – It was hubby’s RDO so he was home, and had arranged for an excavator to come and auger holes along our back boundary for posts for the retaining wall (currently the backyard slopes quite a bit but we now have approval to fill and make it more level).

earthworks

19 January – I jarred my arm while mowing, I’d already been feeling a bit tender there but now it looks like I have a case of full blown tennis elbow 🙁 . I really need to get my proper office chair out of storage instead of making do with a dining room chair … oh, and the boys finished the kitty chiller!

20 January – Hubby and I were both feeling a bit “over it” today, this whole buying/selling a house project is taking months, and there is still so much to be done – have we bitten off more than we can chew?!

21 January – Both feeling a bit blah again today, and one of the hubster’s top molars has been giving him quite a bit of pain.

22 January – Finally picked up a 2019 diary while at the shops! That means I can now write my “Sentence a Day” in that, instead of keeping random notes in the back of my old 2018 diary! And in keeping with my one little word for 2019 (colour), I bypassed the boring blacks and browns, and chose a shiny green one instead.

new diary

23 January – Hubby has been off work the past couple of days, his tooth has been incredibly painful – he is now on antibiotics for an abscess – and today he saw a specialist about getting his tooth removed / root canal treatment.

24 January – In the evening, we cuddled up on the couch and watched the movie “Bird Box” on Netflix.

25 January – We had an impromptu BBQ and games of pool with Mr 24, Miss 22 and her man – a pre-Australia day BBQ, or maybe just TGIF!

pool table

26 January – Even though we’re not living in the old house, and it’s under contract, it needed some cleaning and maintenance before today’s open home.

27 January – Hubby and I had fun looking at about a dozen display homes to glean some new ideas.

28 January – A quiet day at home for the Australia Day public holiday.

29 January – Earlier this month I dropped my phone on the driveway and smashed the screen. Although I got it repaired the next day, I jumped online and ordered a more protective phone cover and was excited when it arrived today. It’s mint and grey – again, going for the more colourful option!

30 January – I got a Veet Sensitive Precision thingy for my birthday so sat down and tidied up my eyebrows. I’ve only used it once before and got a bit carried away – left a small bald patch on one brow, this time however I got a much better result 😉 .

31 January – Was meant to have coffee with a friend today but sadly she had to postpone, so it was just a regular day of work at my desk, ho hum …

I don’t know if you picked up on it, but I’m feeling a bit flat lately. When I decided I wanted more colour in my life in 2019, I didn’t mean the blues 😉 !

Seriously though I guess it’s to be expected, after all the excitement and upheaval of the last couple of months of 2018 – buying our house, moving in, daughter’s engagement, son’s graduation – it all makes ordinary life feel so very, well … ordinary, LOL.

We are waiting, waiting, waiting for the other house sale to go through to free up our finances again, and to get the furniture etc which will help us feel more settled here. Add to that the responsibilities of maintaining two houses, a husband who’s been unwell, my own tennis elbow, constant hot and humid weather (NOT my favourite time of year – I do love my air conditioning!), and getting back into the work routine, plus some other stuff I can’t really share here, you can see why I’m struggling a bit.

I think I need a holiday, but alas, none of those in our immediate future either.

Anyway! Thanks for letting me vent – I’m sure things will pick up in February!

How was your January?

Oh Janet it sounds as if you’re entitled to a bit of ‘the flats’. You have been so busy and occupied, but not a lot of time for you, or flashes of excitement as I like to call them. Me too, I’ve been a bit flat in January – I’m not sure that I’m great with all the expectations and pressures that the advent of a new year brings. I’m better when I’ve got my head down, and I’m getting on with it, rather than in planning mode and wondering why I’m so useless when it comes to sustaining resolutions. Good luck with the house sale. It’s an energy sapping minefield – you’ll be happy when it’s done and dusted.

I just recently subscribed to your blog and I really enjoyed reading your one sentence per day post! I think I’m going to do the same thing – it’s a great and quick way to document your life. I appreciate reading about other people’s ordinary lives which are more like mine than some of the people who posts blogs about their lives that will never match mine.

Michele, welcome and thank you so much! Your comment has made my day 🙂

Hey Janet, I hope the blahs are gone soon.
And the house sells … Hang in there, friend. : )
I’m feeling slightly overwhelmed that we’re already into February, and the weeks just keep rolling… I think it’s the life season I’m in, with older school aged kids.
