Blogging Clarity Challenge 5: Energise!

Janet Camilleri · 11/07/2014 ·

In the words of Star Trek: what ENERGISES me?!This week I’m sharing the things that give me energy (ENERGISE! Sorry couldn’t resist the Star Trek reference …), as I work my way through my Blogging Clarity Challenge list:

  1. What interests do I have?
  2. What experiences (good or bad) have I had?
  3. What expertise and skills do I have?
  4. What are my passions?
  5. What gives me energy?
  6. What do I talk about with my friends?
  7. If I could write about anything, what would I write?

Blogging Clarity Challenge 5: Energise!

The reality is: much of the last 20 years I’ve suffered from either depression and/or anemia so my energy was in extremely short supply for a long, long time.

Fortunately, my depression was picked up about 15 years ago and has been successfully treated.

The anemia on the other hand remained a constant problem, and has only really improved since I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago.

I really must do a post about anemia one of these days … but I digress.

what gives me energy8 Things that Energise Me

  • Sleep. There’s nothing like a good night’s sleep or nanna nap to help me recharge the batteries.
  • Sugar. I have a terrible sweet tooth and am way too fond of sugar, something I am trying to curb so I don’t end up with Type 2 Diabetes.
  • Cuddles & Hugs. I am blessed to have an incredibly affectionate hubster who gives me lots of cuddles. I also love hugging my kids, and my kitty (when I had one). Just another reason why I need another pet, soon!
  • Laughter. Again, I am blessed with a hubster with a wicked sense of humour. People are often surprised by his dry wit, he seems very serious and reserved and then he comes out with some real crackers. He makes me laugh everyday!
  • Living with Purpose. Hmm didn’t I mention this last week in my passions?
  • Writing. I can lose myself for hours when I am writing, even forgetting to eat, drink, move, pick up my daughter from school (many times – ooops!) …
  • Good Times with Friends. Being able to be myself, to talk about the things that really matter, getting below the surface of “small talk”, and have a bit of a laugh.
  • Success. Compliments, positive feedback, completing a task, doing something well, knowing that IΒ  have made a difference – all of these energise me!

Now it’s over to you. What are the things that give you energy?

Insightful, interesting conversations always energise me. A good sermon at church too. Love your zest for life, Janet. So inspiring x

Being an introvert, time to myself energises me whereas social occasions drain me (even though I enjoy them!). I have to agree with SLEEP energising me (gosh I need it!!), hugs and affection (can’t live without it), having purpose (everyone needs a purpose), writing and photography are my passions and energise me and yes – I really do get a kick out of a compliment, positive feedback, encouragement etc. All of those things give me a kick of energy and renewed determination and faith in what I am doing. πŸ™‚

I’m like you Min – socialising can take it out of me too.

I must admit that your list is basically mine, Janet, but I hadn’t thought of it so efficiently and succinctly. It’s good to read over these points and feel a warm sense of gratitude if you can tick them off. πŸ™‚
(BTW I think that one of the reasons blogging can be so rewarding is that you get such nice feedback and you realise that you’re not just talking into a vortext, a void!)

Yes, I love the immediacy and the feedback of blogging too – one of the reasons I love it so much πŸ™‚

Umm positive feedback from my working (paid stuff not blog) and when my kids are happy and not fighting. Sleep is another big one for me, I need at least 5 hours straight to function which is rare these days… x

Setting goals and working towards them gives me energy. My problem is that I’m a lot better at starting than finishing so it is something that can drain me as well. I also love encouraging mums and helping them work towards their goals too. Often I’m plagued by my own self doubts and don’t put myself out there enough to think of other people but I’m always on such a high afterwards, I really just need to get over myself πŸ™‚
