Do Cats Have Purrsonalities?

Janet Camilleri · 04/09/2018 ·

I posed this question to Miss Fleur recently, and she just narrowed her eyes at me as if to say: “Well of course cats have purrsonalities Mummy, are you stoopid or something?!”

Miss Fleur is a cat with personality
“Well of course cats have purrsonalities Mummy!”

However I think that most kittehs only fully reveal their personality, to their favourite hooman/s – which means there could be some non-cat owners out there, thinking cats are boring balls of fluff, obsessed with washing themselves and snoozing all day (although that’s definitely true too).

Only kitteh owners know the truth: each cat comes complete with their own little quirks – some good, some bad, and some hilarious!

Cats with Purrsonality

For example:

  • My own Miss Fleur likes to flop on my desk, using the mouse as a pillow. It doesn’t look very comfortable to me, but she loves it … probably because I can’t do any work until I’ve given her some attention!

“I’ll just rest my head on your mouse Mummy so you can’t do any work until you’ve given me the wuv and pats!”
  • She also likes to “cat snot” to show her love and affection. That is, she likes to rub her wet little nose up against us. Which is okay if it’s just on your leg, a bit gross when she wants to rub her nose on your face. Ewww!

“But mummy I just luff you so much … I has to cat snot you!”

If that one made you wince, maybe you should click away now and read another post – how about this one on the power of a daily dose of cute …

  • My last kitty, Misty, was only a baby when we adopted her – she used to like to suckle on my ear lobes as if I was a mother cat. So ticklish!

  • We adopted Tigger, a stray cat that turned up at a work mate’s house (much to her own cat’s disgust) in about 2005. He was a big cat and the kidults will tell you it was quite scary if he ran across the yard to chase them! However when we scratched his back, just in front of his tail, he would immediately take a “downward dog” style pose, all submissive, and start licking the floor in front of him. Not quite sure what that was about …

And a much loved part of the family.
  • We got our “first-born” kitteh, Chloe, the year we got married (1990), and had her for 15 years. We used to sing a little song together nearly every morning before I fed her breakfast … she joined in so purrfectly:

Sing … miaow

Sing a song … miaow

Sing out loud … miaow

Sing out strong … miaow!

Sing of good times, not bad, Sing of happy, not sad …

Chloe as a kitten
So tiny, she could run around on a plate!

In winter, the fur under her chin would grow very thick so we would call her “Chloe Lion”!

In fact, every single one of the kittehs I have known and loved, has definitely had their own unmistakable purrsonality.

And now it’s your turn – I’d love to hear about your cats and their quirks – so make sure you leave a comment below!

Haha I don’t have cats myself but grew up with them (my mum is definitely a cat person). I’ve met several purrsonalities! My current fave is Jasper. He eats everything like a dog would (most cats I know are kind of picky) and he loves to sniff my boots. He’s really affectionate and so good with my baby and my son. He likes to give everyone he loves a head rub greeting. Except if he gets too into it, his murder button gets activated and he tries to eat your head!

Haha! The good ol’ murder button. My son’s cat is like that. One minute lovey-dovey and the next he is ready to kill you!!!
