Makeup BAG: Beauty Across the Generations!

Janet Camilleri · 18/07/2016 ·

Makeup and beauty across the generations

Miss 19 and I have put our heads together and decided to bring you regular reviews of “Makeup and Beauty Across the Generations” – our Makeup BAG!

After all, Miss 19 is a bit of a makeup addict; while my approach is much more low key. In fact, I Must Confess: I’m a bit of a “beauty skeptic”, so when I do find something that actually delivers on it’s promises, I like to let everybody know!

Check out what’s in our Makeup BAG this month …

Middle Aged Mama’s Makeup BAG

MAC Powder Blush in Margin

MAC blush

Maybe I’ve been sucked in by the hype but I bought my first MAC product last month πŸ˜‰ . Needless to say Miss 19 was thrilled!

I think I caved as I enjoyed the personal service at the MAC counter, and I could actually see the product on my cheeks before I bought it. A gorgeous peachy shade with flecks of gold, this blush works equally well on bare skin, or with a full face of war paint makeup.

At approximately $40 this Mac blush wasn’t cheap, but I do love it and it has proved a valuable addition to my box of tricks.

Rosehip Oil for Middle Aged Skin

Rosehip Oil

I’ve noticed in the last year or so that my skincare needs have changed dramatically, most likely as part of the aging process. My old faithful cleanser and moisturiser were leaving my face feeling tight and dry, and I knew my skin was crying out for more.

I had bought – and discarded – a couple of products, before receiving the RosehipPLUSβ„’ Certified Organic Cold Pressed Rosehip Oil* (RRP $19.95), and the Organic Daily Cream Cleanser* (RRP $16.95), at the recent Bloggers United Brisbane Event. Let’s just say I’m a convert! My skin feels and looks soft and moisturised, and as a bonus, the annoying breakouts I used to get on my neck have pretty much disappeared.

The Rosehip Oil in particular is great value, as I estimate it will last me a year, with only 4 or 5 drops per day are needed.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

mascara

My favourite mascara of all time! Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara (RRP $21.95) provides both length and volume while separating the lashes; and doesn’t flake or smudge. I always have issues with mascara smudging under my eyes but this one doesn’t do that. I’m also loving the new black pearl formula which is extra super black!

L’Oreal True Match Foundation

foundation

Yes it looks well-loved πŸ˜‰ . I love the L’Oreal True Match Foundation (RRP $29.95) because it has a shade (W1 Golden Ivory) that matches my “unusual” skin tone which is very fair yet YELLOW toned. Most products for fair skin are pink toned which washes me out or makes me look sick. I wear it every day, although I do prefer something heavier if I am going out at night. The finish is quite natural and gives a slight healthy glow.

Thanks Leanne – it took us ages to come up with something!

I’m loving the look of those Rosehip products! Love that they are organic. Thanks for the link – I’ll be checking those products out for sure! πŸ™‚

Wow! Rosehip oil is so in fashion at the moemnt. You’re the second blog posting about it. I started using it this winter just cos I found some at home! So I’m totally de riguour without even knowing why (or how to spell it)

I’d never really heard of it before but am definitely loving it!

Well I caved recently and purchased the Nivea aftershave balm to use as a primer. I’d heard great things but wasn’t convinced it would be for me. It was on special for $8. Best thing ever. It’s also helping with my really dry skin. Not entirely happy that hubby wants to use it for its actual purpose, so I may have to head back and get him one of his own.

Miss 19 tried that tip – she didn’t like it though, it left her skin feeling really dry!

I’m terrible when it comes to beauty and skincare. Apart from wearing sunscreen when I’m out in the sun, my skincare routine consists of…nothing!

    • Janet Camilleri says

      18/07/2016 at 8:28 pm

I was the same for a long time Ness … but then my skin let me know it really needed some TLC! The joys of being nearly 50 πŸ˜‰

MAC blush is lovely – as are most of their products. I have a couple of their blushes but am lucky that I have either won or been given them all! I’m also a fan of the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara once it dries a little.

      18/07/2016 at 8:28 pm

Miss 19 agrees with you – it’s best when it dries a little.

Oh I like the sound of that mascara! I have the same issues with it smudging under my eyes. A few years ago I got my make up done at a Napoleon Perdis counter as a present from a friend and their mascara smudged so bad. It really put me off wanting to use any of their products long term.

    • Janet Camilleri says

      18/07/2016 at 8:29 pm

I got a Napoleon blush free with a magazine once, and really liked it. But haven’t tried anything else.

I have to confess that I love not having to wear makeup as much now I’m at home! Love the combined review – it’s interesting to compare the beauty needs of different generations. Looking forward to reading more!

  9. Janet Camilleri says

    18/07/2016 at 8:30 pm

It’s very liberating isn’t it Kirsty! On these cooler days I am often to be found wearing my slippers during the day. Out of laziness I have also been reaching for my dressing gown to go over the top of my clothes if I’m really cold, but I’ve decided that’s a step too far and not a good habit for me to get into!

  10. Amy (healthandbeautygirl.com) says

    19/07/2016 at 12:17 pm

Oh, how i wish I could use rosehip oil! So many skin benefits and I hear wonderful things, but sadly for me it causes acne. I’m a skincare and beauty oil junkie so I’m so bummed about it!

    • Janet Camilleri says

      19/07/2016 at 12:37 pm

I must confess I probably wouldn’t have liked it either in years gone by Amy – I used to have very oily/problem skin. Funny how it changes as we get older …

That blush is such a pretty shade Janet – I reckon it would suit just about anyone too. Lots of goodies and it’s fascinating to me to find out what other gals love ?

    • Janet Camilleri says

      21/07/2016 at 5:09 pm

It is – I love seeing what other people are using/doing too! I love going for walks at night so I can peep inside people’s houses, amazing how many leave the curtains/blinds open!

  13. Tash @ Gift Grapevine says

    19/07/2016 at 11:42 pm

I’m yet to find a mascara I truly love (always smudging!) so that Maybelline one is next on my to-try list!

    • Janet Camilleri says

      21/07/2016 at 5:09 pm

Miss 19 swears by it though must confess I’ve never tried it!

I love the look of your MAC blush! I’ll have to check it out next time I’m in store as my favourite blush has hit pan and I will be needing a replacement soon! And I share your love of the Rosehip Plus products!

Definitely worth checking out the MAC blush Ingrid πŸ™‚
