Middle Aged Mama at Kitten D’Amour Carindale

Janet Camilleri · 24/01/2014 ·

I’ve blogged before about my love for Kitten D’Amour Carindale.

And what’s not to love? It’s girly, it’s glamourous, and they have some rocking retro styles!

But to be perfectly honest, both Miss 17 and I found it all a bit intimidating. Although we couldn’t resist browsing, we had never actually tried anything on, let along bought something from a Kitten D’Amour boutique.

So we decided enough was enough – we were going to pay Kitten D’Amour a visit and try something on!

The Good News

The fitting room area is roomy with great mirrors; perfect for taking a selfie or two ;-).

And Miss 17 looked ahhhhhh-mazing in the dresses she tried. See for yourself:

The Bad News

I struggled to find anything in Size 14 or 16 but eventually located a blouse and a dress to try on.

Sadly, neither fitted. Perhaps if I’d been an hourglass shape I might have fared better; but with a bit of a pot belly (typical of an apple shape), the clothes did nothing for my particular figure.

So I guess there’s a reason it’s called “Kitten” D’Amour – the styles are really aimed at the kittens amongst us (ie young women), rather than fat cats old tabbies like me ;-).

If only there was a Kitten D’Amour boutique aimed at the more mature amongst us – though somehow I don’t think Le Gros Chat (the large cat) boutique has quite the same ring to it!

Are there any stores that you love, but the stock just doesn’t suit your figure?!

Your daughter looks stunning! I’d probably struggle to find something to fit me there too… until I lose my baby weight which will be a while since I’m getting bigger by the week with the one I’m carrying! I always found Portman’s sizing to be a bit on the small size. I’ve always loved Cue and Veronika Maine for their sizing.

Le Gros Chat! Hahaha! I like some of those Japanese designs you see at Myers but they are made for those tiny, hipless girls with no boobs. We’ll just have to live vicariously through our daughters Janet.

Your daughter looks beautiful in those dresses! Yes, I love that style but alas those days have passed for me. Le Gros Chat – LOL !! My daughter would look gorgeous in those style of dresses – are they expensive?

I think this dress was $219 from memory so definitely not cheap. To me, it is something to wear to a wedding, but Miss 17 said if she spent that much money on a dress (and she is very tempted!) she’d wear it everywhere!

I’ve recently learned that Cue is pretty good but I’m 16-18 so most stuff in ‘normal’ stores is just a bit too small for me and stuff in plus sized stores are giant sacks on me. I’ve pretty much given up on shopping right now!

I hear ya Vanessa – I’m a size 14-16 and find I have the same problem, grrrr.
