I love drooling over the interior decorating magazines, and have long wished for my own home to look just as stylish and glamourous.
Alas, it’s not to be. Because the thing is, real people live in my house ALL. THE. TIME. (Has anybody else noticed that these magazines mostly feature “holiday homes”?!). And real people make mess, and lots of it. Sigh.
The Entry
Sadly, it’s not much of an entry. But it does boast a lovely collection of discarded shoes (or it did – we bought an Ikea shoe cabinet last week, which so far seems to have done the trick. Let’s hope it lasts!)
The Laundry
We have a lovely kitty, but the reality is that kitties need to go the toilet too. There’s not much you can do to tart up a kitty litter tray really and turn it into an aesthetically pleasing decor item; it’s hard enough keeping it clean and smelling sweet.
Dining Room
We have a lot of Ikea furniture come to think of it (Ikea, if you ever need a blog ambassador, I’m your girl). This is the not so pretty inside of their functional storage systems … though it never looks like this in their catalogues or stores!
Master Bedroom
Clean washing seems to like to gather on the chair in our bedroom. At least it’s colour coordinated, right?
Oh, and the cylinder at the back? That’s one of the roller blinds that came with the house; we replaced them as soon as we bought the place 2 1/2 years ago. The hubster wants to use this roller blind as a screen for a Projector TV one day. Until then, it adds an interesting sculptural feature to our bedroom …
Ensuite Bathroom
I’ve shared about my collection of teddies here and blue green glassware as well. But did you know the hubster also has a collection? Here, for your viewing pleasure, is an artistic arrangement of stickers from used soap bars. I’m sure you can’t wait to use this little decorator tip in your bathroom – it adds instant glam and poshness – proves that when it comes to soap, only the best for us!
Teenage Daughter’s Bedroom
‘Nuff said …
We are soooo classy!
I’m sure Vogue Interiors Inferiors will be knocking on my door for a photo shoot, any day now …
Love it, Janet 🙂
Heh heh heh I wish my house was always Better Homes & Gardens worthy but unfortunately it’s more like Messy Homes & Gardens!
Love this!!
Glad I could make you smile 🙂
You are so funny J – and your daughters room is classic – oh and are the stickers on wall x
Her room would be so beautiful if she actually kept it tidy!
Oh dear teenage girls , I was never that bad but my sister was.
I love IKEA too.
I’ve given up on her bedroom – am I a bad mummy?! Most of the time we just keep the door shut!
You’re just way too posh, young lady 😉 x
Oh, I know. I’ll try to keep my poshness in check on the 29th at the bloggers meetup 😉
Ooooooh classy – you use Imperial Leather. We need to step things up a notch at Chez Abs.
LOL I think we got it from Crazy Clark’s (cheap!) hence the different stickers …
LOL! How did you get into my house???
Glad I’m not the only one Sarah! 😉
I have tears rolling down my cheeks, giggling sooooo hard! The roller blind in the bedroom bit just sent me over the edge, love it, thank you 🙂
Agggh it drives me mad! Can’t believe I’ve managed to turn a blind eye to it for about 2 1/2 years!!!!
Love this Janet. It’s something for me to aspire to. My husband is a bit of a hoarder but he hasn’t hoarded soap stickers yet. It could be the next thing.
We are all just bogans at heart 😉
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad to see someone else’s child has a floor-robe – I thought K was the only one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have the best day !
Me
*Sigh* that floor-drobe – I wonder will it EVER improve!
Vogue Inferiors! I love it! I laughed out loud reading this post! A-M xx
Not a patch on your lovely posts, but good for a giggle!
Thanks for the OMG and laugh out loud!! So glad to see a real home! Our bedroom can resemble a teenagers at any given time, our walk in wardrobe OMG! The sad thing is the teens bedrooms are usually better than ours!
Yeah my walk in robe is a bit of a disaster area at the moment too. Maybe I’ll clean it out this weekend??!
This post made me laugh, your teen’s bedroom is about the same level as my teens was. (past tense) Her’s is now awesome and the rest of my house is tragic as ever. 🙂
I think hubster will probably help her tackle the room cleaning this weekend!
OMG….your daughter’s room could easily be my daughters room. I have given up trying to get her to clean it. It just causes fights……..
Miss 19 has since moved out, but that’s the only thing that’s changed. From what I hear, her room is just as messy!
