What to Wear with a Sequin Top

Janet Camilleri · 09/12/2014 ·

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you will probably already know that I bought a blush sequin top at Crossroads about a week ago.

I mean, how could I resist? It was on the sale rack (reduced to just $9 – originally $39.95!) and both the colours and fit made it seem like it was meant to be – even if I had no idea when I would wear it – or what I would wear it with!

I got some great ideas from your comments on social media, so I turned to Polyvore to unleash my newfound style inspiration … and so I present to you: What to Wear with a Sequin Top!

1. Wow them at a Wedding!

To be perfectly honest, much as I love this look, it wouldn’t work for me personally. The combo of sequin top and full skirt would make me look like a sack of potatoes, thanks to my apple-shaped figure. But I can still dream, right?!

2. Classy for a Cocktail Party

The sequin top looks sassy yet elegant when combined with a leather pencil skirt and sexy stilettoes. I would wear this in a heartbeat! Though looking at it now, I think a vampy red lipstick might be a better choice than the one pictured here.

3. Casual Sparkles for a Celebration Lunch

I was so inspired by this ensemble – I actually wore something very similar to a Christmas pool party on the weekend! I felt very special and sparkly in my sequin top, but thanks to the white bermuda shorts, I didn’t feel too overdone.

4. A Very Special Evening

This one might just be my favourite combo. I love the elegance of the burgundy and the way the blush sequin top changes colour to suit, just like a chameleon.

What would you wear with a sequin top?

I love a sequin top but they always make my arms heard after a little while because they are rough. Am I the only one with that problem. I love the first outfit the most.

No you’re not alone! I have the same problem (I even blogged about it here: https://middleagedmama.com.au/sequins-for-everyday/). That’s why it’s good to wear a sequin top with a jacket šŸ˜‰ . And, I was only at the Christmas party for 3 hours so I could tolerate that scratch for that long – might have been different if it had been all day …

Oooh, I love the burgundy combo, very nice šŸ™‚

I wish all these items were in my wardrobe right now! šŸ˜‰

I so want to go shopping for a sequin top now after viewing all the above outfit combos!

I wasn’t expecting to be able to wear it, but at $9 how could I say no … and look, I made it work!

I love your style, Janet! (Except that I only wear wedge heels) I would’ve picked and worn pretty much everything here. Including my trademark wrist full of stretch bracelets. I’m not afraid of a bit of sparkle šŸ˜‰ #teamIBOT

Heels are only for very special occasions, much prefer a wedge myself šŸ™‚

I love that sequin top! I might have to go to Crossroads and get one!

Hurry – they’re on the sale rack so won’t last long!

Thanks Lauren, I was so amazed at how it suited my colouring that I would probably would have bought it even at full price!

I used to have quite a few back in the day, but I don’t own a single one now. I must rectify this immediately. Did you say you bought this for $9? What a steal!

    • Janet Camilleri says

      10/12/2014 at 9:02 am

Sure did! It was marked down on the “sale” rack – and then there was a further 30% off!

They’re all great looks Janet. I had a sequined jacket once. I must pop into Crossroads. I’ve never been there before.

Are you serious Pinky?! I often joke I’m a walking talking Crossroads advert – that’s how much of my wardrobe originates from there!

I am! We have a Crossroads in one of the shopping malls I frequent but I’ve never gone in. I do most of my shopping at Just Jeans sales. I like their free flowing shirts and maxis. I need to get out of my comfort zone.

LOL yes I understand the old comfort zone thing. For me, venturing into Just Jeans or Jeans West is out of MY comfort zone – but I’ve found some great stuff there in the past year or two!

Love that top, Janet and you’ve come up with some really great, versatile looks … I especially love the “Celebration Lunch” look!

I like the lunch outfit. I could see myself lunching in that šŸ™‚

I love the sequin top on you, but I wouldn’t wear it myself. I just don’t think I’m that sparkly.
