Who Wears the Pants in your House?!

Have you ever stopped to think about who REALLY wears the pants  in your house?!

We used to joke that it was our daughter, Miss 19. But the reality is she moved out a year ago and is off doing her own thing now, so she don’t count.

These days, it’s probably our kitty, Miss Fleur 😉 … although she doesn’t wear any pants!

Most people, looking at the hubster and I, would probably guess that *I* am the boss. I’m more extroverted and noisier in general than he is, so it’s easy to see why they would think this. What can I say – I like the spotlight!

The hubster is more reserved. He can’t understand my addiction to Facebook, for example, and why I need to “share everything” on social media – although he doesn’t mind so much now I manage to make an income out of both blogging, and managing Facebook pages for other companies (who knows what he will think of this post!). He’s quieter. A gentleman through and through.

So to the casual observer, it would probably look as if I wear the pants in our marriage and household.

Not true.

I Must Confess: I think the hubster is definitely the head honcho / decision maker / boss in our household.

Most of the time, I don’t mind that. After all, he loves me to bits so usually goes out of his way to make sure that I am happy with the way that things are going.

Working out who wears the pants in your house

If you want to work out who wear the pants in your house – think about who gets the final say in major purchases like a car, computer or holidays. If it’s time to move. House alterations. Whether you get a new pet – or not . Yes, I definitely get a say in all these things, but at the end of the day I think the balance of power rests in his hand.

People who know him might be surprised to learn this, as they assume the gentle exterior means a soft interior; yet in fact he can be very determined!

I liken it to an iron fist, in a velvet glove.

At the end of the day though, we BOTH have to make sacrifices and compromises at times. There were some clashes in the early days – I’m an eldest child and a former teacher, so I can’t help being a bit bossy! It’s lucky we love each other and are always careful to consider the other’s needs.

So that’s how it looks in our house. It might be different in yours – and there’s nothing wrong with that. Each couple is unique and has to find what works for them.

Now it’s your turn – who wears the pants in your house?!
