50 Fun Facts about My Bear

happy 50th birthday to my husband

Time for another “Fun Facts” post!

And with my beloved husbear turning 50 this week, it’s the perfect time to turn the spotlight on him!

So here for your amusement, are 50 fun facts about my Bear …

1 – He hates being in the spotlight (oops sorry honey), not like me at all 😉 .

2 – He’s the “baby” of his family – the youngest of three children.

3 – When it comes to his earliest memories, he says he can remember being in his cot (not sure if I believe this, to be honest!).

4 – He grew up on a sugar cane farm just outside Mackay, Qld.

5 – Probably because he grew up on a cane farm, he is not scared of snakes and has caught and relocated quite a few over the years – family, friends and neighbours know they can always call on him for help if they have a slithery visitor!

6 – He had his tonsils out as a child;

7 – And shared a bedroom with his older brother (that’s not something you hear too much these days is it?).

8 – He was an altar boy;

9 – And was good at sports, and a very fast runner in primary school (not like me at all!).

10 – He also loved building things with Meccano.

11 – His family moved to Brisbane just in time for him to start high school.

12 – Around this time, he started delivering pamphlets on his bike every weekend.

13 – With his earnings he bought his first car at the tender age of 15 long before he got his driver’s licence – an LX Torana (I think … I could be wrong).

14 – These days he also has a boat licence;

15 – And a motorbike licence.

16 – He has a very high IQ and is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met.

17 – Because of this he was steered into all the academic classes at high school, when he would have much preferred the manual arts stream.

18 – Back then he wanted to become an electrician.

19 – He started wearing contact lenses in his late teens, but they made his eyes red and sore so he ended up switching to glasses after we got married.

20 – When he was just 19, he met this cute li’l blonde chick … who turned out to be the love of his life!

21 – He’s 18 months younger than me – yep, I’m a cradle snatcher 😉 .

22 – When I met him, he owned a 5 litre yellow Holden VK Commodore (which a work friend of mine promptly christened “The Flying Banana”!).

23 – And had a poster of Madonna hanging on his bedroom wall.

24 – He didn’t leave home until we got married;

25 – And was 25 when he became a Dad.

26 – Back then people used to say he looked like Clark Kent (aka Superman), probably due to the glasses he had at the time.

27 – I arranged a surprise party for his 30th, at a friend’s house – and yes, he was surprised LOL (if a little car sick from the blindfold I made him wear on the way!).

28 – It wasn’t until he was in his 30’s that he got the chicken pox (when our kids got it!).

29 – He has the most beautiful handwriting I’ve ever seen from a male.

30 – He loves to read magazines – everything from Science and Engineering, to Reader’s Digest, Street Machine, caravan, boating, fishing and motorbike magazines;

31 – And enjoys reading books like the annual Guinness Book of World Records, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, and the like.

32 – In his spare time, he likes to go fishing;

33 – And collects nice wrist watches.

34 – When it comes to music, he likes 80’s classics like The Angels and ELO.

35 – He is an incredible handyman and can make or fix pretty much anything – fences, retaining walls, fixing cars, renovating our laundry, giving our walk in wardrobe a makeover.

36 – He is also one of the kindest people I’ve ever met;

37 – and he’s really cuddly too, which is why I call him My Bear.

38 – I think he’s very good looking (biased I know) – but he HAS been on the cover of a magazine so that proves it, right?

39 – One of his favourite foods is crumbed steak;

40 – Although he also loves nuts, especially cashews;

41 – And the blood orange gelato they used to serve at Fasta Pasta (before they closed down).

42 – Actually orange anything is a bit of a favourite flavour for him!

43 – He has a very quick, dry wit (and manages to make me laugh pretty much every day).

44 – He’s a crazy cat man.

45 – I love that he always remembers special dates – birthdays, anniversaries (even random ones, like 10 000 days of marriage!).

46 – He is usually the one that does the grocery shopping in our household;

47 – As well as the vacuuming.

48 – He’s always been very good with money and taught me a thing or two.

49 – He is a bit of a workaholic … and,

50 – I can’t decide what his primary love language is – could it be touch? Quality time? Acts of service?

Seems I’m still learning things about this incredible man I married, even after 30 years together.

Happy 50th birthday to my honey husband!
