It’s week 6 of my 7 week Blogging Clarity Challenge (the complete list is at the end of this post), and this week I’m revealing: What do I talk about when I’m chatting with friends?
Blogging Clarity Challenge 6: Chatting with Friends
- Health Issues – Maybe it’s a sign of middle age, but last time I got together with a gaggle of girlfriends, we spent the first half an hour (or more!) talking about our various health issues. We had to consciously pull ourselves up on it, and change the subject!
From there, we moved onto the following:
- Kids – Our kids are mostly in their late teens/early twenties – which is a very interesting age, as they establish their own lives. So we catch up on what all our kids are doing, or not doing (as the case may be!) – including how they usually turn out nothing like our expectations …
- Husbands – This isn’t about dishing the dirt! But it’s great to be able to talk about things we might be experiencing in our marriage, and how we are doing our best to love and support our husbands – even though there are days they drive us crazy.
- Work/Business – I find it ironic that when we were a lot younger, all of us kind of assumed we would be fulltime Mums forever … but that’s not how it worked out.
We talk about the latest developments in our careers, and share tips on how to juggle the delicate work/life balance. - Faith – Many of my closest friends are from my youth group days, so faith has always been one of the things we share in common. I love that we can be honest with each other and talk about our walk with God – whether it’s going well, or we’re struggling, or not really going anywhere – and most importantly, we try to encourage and build each other up, to keep on, keeping on!
- Fashion, Food, Books, Gardening – From there, we move on to more frivolous topics like fashion, sharing recipe ideas, great books we’ve read, etc.
It’s amazing how, when you get a bunch of gals together for a good chat, your burdens seem to magically lighten! Thank goodness for friends hey?!
Now it’s over to you. What sort of things do you find yourself talking about when you are chatting with friends?
Here’s the complete list for the Blogging Clarity Challenge, in case you wanna go back and check it out.

All of the above Janet, plus we tend to talk a lot about travel because most of us are a little older than yourself and either work part time or have retired. I guess I could also add grandchildren to my list because some of my friends are Grandmothers!

Ah yes, I could definitely add travel to my list as well! Grandchildren not so much – only 1 friend has any so far …
